Clinton Howell Antiques

Clinton Howell Antiques The finest English 18th Century furniture There is a logic, of sorts, to English furniture, but there are also delightful eccentricities.

English antique furniture is more than a sum of its parts, but the parts are often varied and different so that the whole seems disconcertingly complex. I revel in them and will, for example, buy a great country piece as readily as a great high style piece, despite the obvious differences in decorative appeal. It is great furniture that appeals to me—it has to be special. I have been in this busin

ess in one form or another for thirty-nine years and there has never been a moment when I have wanted to do something else. Please browse, ask questions and, best of all, come and visit. I guarantee that you will find great beauty herein.

Rare in both form and scale - this is the kind of mirror that doesn’t just reflect a room, it defines it. English oval Rococo circa 1755, likely by the hand of a top maker such as John Linnell or Thomas Chippendale.

The sketch in the background was done many months ago, the first step that is taken when designing my booth and addressing the very difficult decision of what to bring.

This has been a part of my process since I started doing The Winter Show in 2002(!) Thrilled to bring some stunning and, as always, rare and unusual items to this year’s show. Look forward to seeing all my friends and amazing exhibitors bring the best and put on a true visual spectacle, expertly run by

This year I have the great fortune to have Patrick Bavasi joining me on my booth. Both his expertise and good humor are invaluable additions this year. We look forward to showing off some pure 18th century drama!

It’s that time of year when an obscene amount of beauty collects in one room . Picking what to bring is the hardest part. I’ve brought things that are rare or the finest example of what they are. I can’t wait to share it all with you - the mechanisms inside the 17th century spice grinder, the fine carving of the pagoda top rococo mirror, the many varied finishes of tables from mahogany to cocus wood to calamander to rosewood. The fascination is always in the detail, look forwarding to showing you my booth.
