We started El Souq with a simple idea: create a space where SWANA + South Asian brands, creatives and community could come together in a way that felt intentional, elevated and ours.
Since then, the market scene has grown and we love seeing more spaces created for our communities.

But there’s only one El Souq.

And this October, we’re heading to Brooklyn.

Join us at Industry City for a day of incredible independent brands, food, music, experiences + interactive activations designed to get you playing, connecting and discovering something new.

Tuesday night, in a room filled with brilliance across industries and disciplines, we showed up for something that matters.

Honored to attend the benefit and to stand alongside a community committed to truth, storytelling, and accountability. The Institute for Middle East Understanding continues to do critical work amplifying Palestinian voices and deepening public understanding of Palestine, Palestinians, and Palestinian Americans through media.

Grateful to be in rooms like this. Grateful for the people doing the work.

The heart of El Souq is its people.

Meet more of the makers in our El Souq Stories series.

Cousins Salah & Mohammed, two Palestinians living in the U.S. - one raised under occupation in the West Bank, and the other in Jordan.

“We felt the responsibility to use what we have here, our platform, our artistry, and our creativity - to support those facing unimaginable hardship throughout occupied Palestine.

Our craft is one that is deeply rooted in our culture. Palestinian embroidery has been a pivotal element depicting who we are as a people. Through this work, we raise funds and awareness for our communities in Gaza and the West Bank. We connect people to our culture that inspires everything we do.

El Souq provides us with a space that feels safe and seen. It brings people together and people who truly appreciate and understand our craft.

We strive to keep Palestinian identity, in all its forms, alive in the midst of the genocide against our people. It is pivotal that we continue to show who we are unapologetically. This is everything we stand for.”

Meet Ravi of .ravi

“As a South Asian designer originally from New Jersey, I started Maison Ravi as a means to define contemporary fashion from a diasporic lens.

I work in collaboration with artisan communities around India to showcase the beauty of the regional textile craft. Together, we develop prints and patterns inspired by traditional motifs, and their handwork shines through every piece.
I’m committed to preserving and uplifting the value of handcraft, especially practices like handloom weaving, block printing, and embroidery. In an industry driven by speed and scale, it’s so important to support the communities that sustain these crafts and recognize them as forms of true luxury.

I initially designed with brown men in mind, people like myself who weren’t always encouraged to see fashion as a form of self-expression. There’s often an unspoken pressure to assimilate and not draw attention to how we present ourselves. Including cultural reference was a way of creating an entry point.

The practice is an attempt to follow my roots, break down what’s imposed by colonial forces and build something new grounded in community.

Being in intentionally curated spaces for community often allows the work to be experienced beyond its surface. My pieces may draw people in aesthetically, I still enjoy sharing the stories and inspirations behind the pieces with those who can connect with the work on a deeper level.”

Continuing our El Souq Stories series, meet Elif of .nyc

“I’m Elif, born and raised in Turkey. I’ve been living in the US for the past 6 years.

Living between these two cultures shaped me, but over time I started to miss the slower, more intentional rhythms I grew up with.

Like many people, I was looking for community, and I kept coming back to how connection at home was built through shared, unhurried moments. Istanbru came from that place, using Turkish coffee as a way to bridge Istanbul and New York and create space for people to gather, talk, and be present while the coffee brews

I created this with my late mom in mind. She grew up inIstanbul and is the reason behind the name Istanbru. Some of my strongest memories with her are simple moments spent side by side, talking over coffee. In many ways, this is a continuation of those moments, extended outward to others who are also looking for connection.

It means a lot to be part of a space that is built around community. I found the courage to launch Istanbru because of El Souq. From the beginning, it felt like being surrounded by people who already value care, culture, and gathering. It turns what I do into something shared, where people come not just to buy, but to connect.”
