The knife features a compact honey locust haft, shaped and finished with a steel scraper. The blade is set with pine pitch glue and secured using tightly applied tarred line, then heat-treated in stages so the adhesive could fully pe*****te and cure into a solid, unified collar. The result is not just a handle on a blade, but a composite construction built for strength, longevity, and serviceabilityโdesigned so it can be disassembled and rebuilt when needed using the same straightforward process.
An especially thoughtful detail: the original tang was kept and repurposed rather than discarded. Given its substantial size and quality steel, it was turned into an awl for a leatherworking kitโgiving it a second life in another essential tool.
