In a typical week, my wife would go to our local Walmart to do our regular grocery shopping. As always, she would go to the sports cards section to see what they had, and each week she would buy two or three blaster boxes of baseball cards at a time. In May 2025, she bought 2025 Bowman Baseball Card Blaster Boxes, also known as Value Boxes.
I open all of my cards on video and post the videos on my YouTube channel. I do this to document my rips for my personal use, and I also hope to show new collectors the good and the bad of sports card collecting. The bad being that you aren't always going to get good cards that make a profit. So, please don't believe that you are going to get a great card in every rip. My YouTube channel doesn't have much of an audience, but I do have some cherished regulars that will watch and comment on my videos.
I consider myself a small-time collector compared to some, so I certainly never expect to get a huge, really valuable card when opening a box of cards from a retail box store. Then came 2025 Bowman Baseball - Blaster Box #7.
Blaster Box #7 was a huge box. First, I hit a blue parallel, numbered Matt Olson autograph. For sure, I thought that was going to be the hit of the box. I was wrong. Then came a card I had never recognized before. It had a gold-colored frame with a small circles design and an Anime image of Konnor Griffin, who was a player that I had never heard of at that time. I then noticed the 1/1 on the face of the card. This 1/1 is also known as a superfractor. So, I was super excited, even though I didn't know anything about Konnor Griffin.
After the video, I researched 2025 Bowman Anime Superfractors, and it turns out that the odds of pulling any Anime Superfractor out of a Walmart Blaster Box were 1 out of 1.4 million blaster box packs. Just to put it in perspective, each blaster box has 6 packs. I also researched Konnor Griffin, and it turned out that he was a top prospect for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With all this information, I was way more excited now, of course.
Since May 2025, Konnor Griffin has climbed the prospect ranks all the way up to the top, #1 prospect in all of MLB. He has also been promoted to the MLB Pittsburgh Pirates and is doing pretty well in the majors.
After a year of having this most valuable card in my collection, we have decided to have it auctioned off. We have some desperate home repairs that we really need done, and we need to pay off some bills. We are hoping this card will help us with some of these. I really wish I could keep this card as part of my personal collection, as it is the best card that I have ever pulled. It really makes me sad to see it go.
