She watched the star twinkle and twinkle.
She thought it was winking just for her. ✨

Our hanging timer lights have arrived. Just like our fun fairy lights we’ve carried for years, but these can hang indoors off a garland on a mantle or in a wedding, on a hook, in a Christmas tree or mixed in a big plunker. Sarah picked up 3 yesterday. She’s hanging them in staggering heights in a corner of her living room above her plants. She’s covering the battery packs with a piece of greenery.

Available in 2 sizes and 2 colors of wire- copper or silver.

Large comes with remote. Both have 6 hour timer built in.

We’ve also got a sweet garland in copper wire. Available in battery or electric. They look stunning with the autumn greenery, just saying!

As of today, 59 days until the puck drops on UMD Bulldog hockey. In honor and excitement I added the small copper light to my Bulldog cup to brighten up my shelf. So fun!

Several MN made Bulldog prints and stickers have headed out the door recently for some new dogs this fall.

Bird is the word I’ll have our Pequot Bobber magnet and several other goodies from Cindy back in the shop midweek. The Flowers’ Festival book is back on the front table. Our handpainted magnets are getting painted as we speak. I’ll let you know when they’ve arrived.

Thank you for supporting small. It’s been great chatting with you from Thief River Falls, to Motley to Chicago to Virginia. And even that sweet lady from Phoenix who claimed she brought that hot summer weather with her…. I asked her politely to take it back with her in her suitcase! Glad she did.

Look for the glimmers when you least expect them. I found one last night at the grocery store. Super One in Pequot is open until 9pm now 7 days a week! If you shop there, please thank them.

Happy International Owl Awareness Day.

Over the weekend, one of the gardeners from Crosslake was telling me her son lives down in Houston, Minnesota. Apparently they’ve got a wonderful German restaurant. He brings her horseradish and a few other goodies each time he comes to visit.

Wouldn’t you know I saw a little ad for the International Owl Center down in Houston mentioning this celebratory day.

You may remember a few years back, I met a language interpreter who volunteers there. She was up on vacation and we were chatting owls in the shop.

If you happen to be near, there are several events throughout the day and really all year.

Last evening I was out in my garden, cutting a few goodies to bring in. I love a good mix of zinnia flowers, herbs and a piece of coleus. They always make me smile tucked in my owl pot.

I was even greeted by the sound of our owls off in the woods, and a little hummingbird landed on my head for a quick second. Several glimmers when you least expect them.

Our little glazed and amazed owl pot measures about 5 inches tall. A great hostess gift with flowers from your garden.

I’m down to just a couple hand carved owl ornaments. If you’ve got somebody in mind for a gift, grab one before they are gone.

Our mini owl cookie cutter is both a hit and a hoot. Use for cheese, apples, meat, pancakes and for those that felt- it’s a great pattern.

Over the weekend Stan’s Owl book went off to several good homes. Plus a few of you picked up these books.

If you are an owl lover like the peeps in our family, celebrate the day! Decorate your burger or create a special ice cream dessert.

It’s National Sunflower Day today. A perfect place to enjoy the day is down at Country Sunshine MN , south of Brainerd. Here’s a photo of ol Stella playing a tune amongst the sunflower patch last year at this time. Put it on your places to visit and check out their page for more info.

Day two of the Nisswa Garden Tour is going on. I hope round two is as enjoyable as round one was. Grab your tickets online and catch the bus at the Nisswa Chamber this morning.

Down the road from us near our friends at The Outreach Program are some new friends at The Good Village Co.
They are hosting a Handcrafters Collective today from 9-4.

A little quirky fun fact I forgot to mention yesterday… my head must’ve been in outer space that morning…

Yesterday was George Jetson‘s 4th birthday. (I know, I know, you’re going what?) Set in the year 2062, George Jetson was 40 years old on the Jetsons. This means he was born in the year 2022, making him 4.

Crazy to think we have those video calls, smart watches, and robot vacuums…. Just the thought of that makes me want go to for a walk in the woods.

A couple the other day paired Cindy’s Paul and Babe print with our metal bicycle as a gift for his dad. When they come to the area each year, dad enjoys the Paul Bunyan Trail from start to finish.

After work that day, when it was hotter than blazes- I took a quick photo of the bike with Cindy’s PB magnet and our I dig biking magnet out on the trail. As I drove into Pequot that evening, the South Trail Side Park section and Chamber area was packed with people, tents and vehicles.

It was the annual Bike MS Ride Across Minnesota stop.

Each year, over 35,000 participants and over 3,500 teams participate in rides across the country in support of people with multiple sclerosis. With the fundraising support of each cyclist, the National MS Society can continue our work of tackling the complex challenges of MS. From one-to-one MS
Navigator support and advocacy that drives systemic change, to a network of resources and information that helps people affected by MS feel more in control and less alone - the Society will continue to support those affected by MS anyway they can.

So very cool to learn, and appreciate their dedication - especially in this heat!

We’ve made it to that last day of July. We’ve celebrated, we’ve shifted and we’ve been hot to say the least.

One of my favorite prints from Jordan is titled The Last Day of July. So it seems fitting to share this beautiful piece. Available in 11x14.

In a world that moves fast, flowers slow us down. They invite us to breathe deeper, feel more, and return to what really matters. 🌿

Tomorrow and Saturday the Lakes Area Food Shelf is hosting the Nisswa Garden Tour. Grab your tickets online and make a morning of beauty and joy amongst the flowers. As many of you know my mom’s garden is included this year. We stopped over the other night, it is above and beyond spectacular! The smell of those phlox are like a perfect summer day! Definitely could knock your socks off, in the best way.

Hats off to all the gardeners who have worked above and beyond all summer in this heat to bring joy to others.

Take the bus from down at Nisswa Chamber either morning. Drop off your drawing slip with me when you are done. We’ve got a handful of goodies to give away Saturday afternoon from a handful of local small businesses.

I am down to one of Elsa‘s book, Flowers’ Festival. More coming next week. For the gardeners, the grandchildren, the whimsical peeps, and anyone who loves a good story- this is for you.

Written in 1914, Elsa Beskow shared a tale of the Midsummer Garden celebration. The arrival of all of the plants, the stories of the meadow, a little girl and her grandmother and those wild and obnoxious weeds.

I enjoyed it immensely, laughing outloud and smiling the whole time. Here’s a couple little snippets
-As she spoke, there was a loud hubbub at the gate, because a whole crowd of weeds was trying to get in. The carrots and beetroots were trying to keep them out.
"What's all the noise about?" demanded Queen Rose.
"Weeds!" said Mrs Beetroot. "Scoundrels and ragamuffins.
We'd never get rid of them if we let them in." The other vegetables nodded in agreement.
"But we're flowers, too," cried the weeds. "We're no worse than that cornflower"
"What?" cried the Barley Boys. "How can you be compared with Miss Cornflower? Rabble! Be off with you!"

"Now, now," said Queen Rose. "Calm down a little. Please, no quarrelling on Midsummer's Eve."
"I suggest," she said to the weeds, "that you sit along the edge of the ditch outside the garden. Then you can hear and see just as well. The dew cups will bring you refreshments and perhaps Sir Thistle would be so kind as to stand guard at the gate?"
At that, calm was restored, and the storytelling could begin.

"Let's have a a party to celebrate what makes us special,"
suggested the chickweed.
So they did. A very noisy party, a very friendly party, with lots of wild dancing and banging of drums and blowing of trumpets.
The garden flowers heard them and said, "Here those ragamuffins come again. Will we never be rid of them?" The answer came in a great clamour: "NO!"

Regardless, how some of those flowers have felt -everything brings something to the table, including the weeds!

We have another book from Elsa, including Children of the Forest. Also illustrated in Elsa fashion, Tales of the Mushroom Folk illustrated by Signe Aspelin.

The July Raspberry Moon, also known as Miskomini Giizis in Ojibwe, is named for marking the peak season when wild red raspberries ripen. It symbolizes a sacred time for emotional clarity, self-reflection, and setting healthy boundaries.

The Berry Harvest: Used by Algonquin, Ojibwe, and Iroquois nations, it tracks the natural summer harvest of wild red berries.

Thorns and Wisdom: The raspberry plant's thorns teach us how to navigate life's challenges with grace, kindness, and inner strength. The thorns of the raspberry bush teach us that we cannot force our way through life's hardships with toughness alone; softness and compassion are required to reach the sweetness underneath.

Family and Community: It is time to nurture our bonds with loved ones, practice patience, and pass down wisdom for children.

As we celebrate Miin-gizis, take some time to enjoy the berries of the season, spend time in nature if you're able, and reflect on the teachings of gratitude, abundance, and caring for what has been provided.

The Buck Moon as some call it, named by The Old Farmer's Almanac from traditions referencing bucks, which begin growing new antlers covered in velvety fur during this time of year.

Also called the Thunder Moon for summer storms or the Hay Moon for the July harvest.

One of our favorite little gems this summer is our realistic raspberry bunch. Another box of them recently arrived. Many of you have mentioned it’s one of your favorite summer fruits.

Recently, I came across an old book that holds a special place in my heart. Illustrator Priscilla Hillman created a beautiful drawing paired with a poem, mentioning the sweet summer treat. While the book is no longer in print, it was a fun find to add to our home collection. I know a little bear who will eventually love reading it. Fitting to share.

Our buck figurines look awesome among the trees, nested in the greens or even on the window ledge.

We’ve got a handful of new lights that I think you’ll enjoy. A couple copper colored strand garlands(both battery and electric), battery timer hanging fairy light spheres, this awesome solar lantern and more….

Our round little led solar lantern measures about 4.5x6. It will automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn. A built in rechargeable battery.

I’m thinking this one will have to stay put on my table. Good thing I have more.

Bird is the word- our Kindness to Share board is is back. Illustrated by our friend Kristen. And many have been waiting patiently for our Backyard Bird Songs book, it’s also back. One headed out at the end of the day yesterday to a cute little curly haired blonde with pink sunshine sunglasses. She was taking it back home to Lakeville. Mom grabbed a few canvas pieces off our walls. Dad was even happy. Broke, but happy! 😉

Lots of great chatter yesterday about many of our Minnesota artists and companies. So fun! From Ken to Kristen, Jordan to Jordan, Tim to Tracy, Nan, Stan and (my man) Mr. Creative, those cool friends Carla and Cindy, Bryan, who brought more books over the weekend and a handful more- 👏👏👏👏

Our new little friends are happily hanging out in the shop to stay cool. Sold individually, a pretty pair of mischief together.

Trixie and Ol’ Bandit measure 12.5 inches tall.

You can spray them with a clear sealer for outside. Or decorate inside a bit of autumn as August arrives next week and for some the colors are changing. I did say for some, so summer people take a breath. I can hear you all gasping as you read this….

I cut apart one of our new tall flower stems. It makes a fun little garland for the table with its pieces. Keep it in mind for when your wheels are turning to decorate.

My mom is open at 11 today. She may close and head home to water that stunning garden a tad early, so stop in early rather than later.
