SOLD OUT- thank you all. ❤️

Just for a moment, let it all wait. Let the emails wait, the dishes wait, the noise fade into the background, and the notifications fall silent. Let the daily expectations, the unanswered questions, the overflowing to-do list, the quiet pressure, and even your inner critic take a step back.
Let the endless tabs open in your mind rest for a little while. Just for a moment, give yourself permission to pause, because nothing else needs you more than you need you.
Because you are more than all you do. You are a soul before you are a schedule, a light before you are a list, and simply yourself before you are everything to everyone else. 🌿

Happy Monday to you my friends. A lovely week here in the BLA.

Speedee orders shipping Tuesday this week.

A little reminder our angels are by our side in all seasons. Our sweet driftwood angels measure about 5 inches tall. Each different than the other and all loved.

Hope your week is filled with good vibes, purpose and peace.

I’ll be open 10-5 today.

Be kind. I think the world needs more of that.. ✌️

Hot off the press, our squirrel friend has a new adventure in the Pumpkin Thief. Brand new to the series last week. If you’ve loved the Leaf Thief, Flower Thief and Snow Thief- stop in and check this out.

Last night I played around with our new pumpkins. Available in 4 inch and 6 inch. I cut apart some rich colored maple leaves and our golden apple leaves. Some are overwhelmed with a tall single stem of leaves. Cut apart in big pieces and it’s so easy to bend and create a funky tray…or come in and see me.

The pumpkins are in the shop. I’ll have the leaves with me tomorrow.

Hope you have a super Sunday Funday. My mom will be open 11-3 today.

Be kind. Look for the glimmers. Be thankful for those moments that bring you joy.

(I had a visitor at the end of the day, our awesome electrician stopped by the shop on his way home from work to see me…and get a caramel)

Ahhh Minnesota - so many fun and fascinating facts, jokes and quirky things that makes us what what we are. Recently I saw a MN list of jokes and happy sayings. This one made me chuckle -

Minnesota, glove it or leave it.

That will be truer than true as the days roll on….

Our Curious and Fascinating Facts Minnesota book is filled with so much goodness and delight!

Open the front cover and you’ll read that it’s dedicated to some people in Wisconsin and in memory of Vicki, who hated the Packers…

It lists some fun pitstops across the state from Willie, the walleye and Baudette, to Darwin for that largest ball of twine, Rothsay to see the giant Prarie chicken, Olivia and the world‘s largest ear of corn, our pants-less friend, Pierre along the Highway in Two Harbors and north to Eveleth to see the largest freestanding hockey stick.

Did you know that Minnesota was the site of one of the first car bombings? Back in 1928, Irish mob boss “Dapper” Danny Hogan was mortally wounded.

I never knew there was an open season on frogs each year. It runs from March 31 to May 16, if they are intended to be used as bait.

Can you guess the number of serious Wolf attacks recorded in Minnesota history?

The answer is one. But if you find yourself needing a guard animal, such as a donkey, read up on some Minnesota statutes.

There were at least four movies or shows that were set in Minnesota, but were shot other places… while Little House on the Prairie is the top favorite in our family- The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends set in Frostbite Falls (a tongue and cheek nod to international Falls) still makes us smile.

Did you know that the Minnesota State University Morehead’s athletic team were originally known as the “Fighting Pedagogues” (the art of science and teaching)?

Back in 1949 Santa Claus visited Grand Marias by airplane but accidentally crashes into the town movie theater. Thankfully Santa emerged unhurt, but there’s no word on the fate of any presents aboard….

Yesterday I met a lady from Detroit Lakes. She’s got a special job with her other half as Santa and Mrs. Claus. I got to see a couple photos. I should’ve asked her if they’ve flown into any towns recently….

It might be a good day to create a playlist with MN music such as Soul Asylum, Judy Garland, Bob Dylan, The Jayhawks, Sophie Hokiro, The Replacements, Trampled By Turtles, Atmosphere, Lizzo, Prince, and a little Hüsker Dü.

It’s also filled with fun facts on fishing. Some of them might be a far stretch of a fishtale. While I can’t guarantee no fish stories in our shop, I can guarantee these fun fish bracelets.

Have a super Saturday, we’re open 10-5.

Be kind. Be adventurous. Read up on a little Minnesota history and trivia. You just never know when you’ll need that- around the campfire, at trivia night or to quiz your students…

A bit more fun creating recently. This cedar has been a favorite stem because it makes a great base, really all year. I paired it with some of our beech leaves, pinecones, and stunning burgundy sedum.

Bird is the word these tweet friends flew in for a visit. Resin with metal feet. They were enticed by the smell of our freshly made potpourri. Funny how having the door open the last few days, people have commented on smelling it outside and needing to coming in… heck it even brought our cast-iron loons back!

I refilled the potpourri before I left last night. Our honeysuckle and moss, woods, pumpkin and evergreen seedling bowls are refreshed.

We often joke about how great the plunkers are when you are not the gifted decorator. We’ve now got a beautiful bunch of mixed greens with a few pinecones tossed in for such the occasion. You can put two together to fill a vase or pot or use a single one as a base for a wedding bouquet or mixed greenery for yourself.

I hope you have a fabulous Friday! I’ll be open 10 to 5.

My last customer of the day shared with me she has been working on a special project for a Kindness rock garden across the way in Pocket Park. Be on the lookout for that soon!

Be kind. Share joy. Take five this weekend and write somebody a note of thanks.

And in this life we will constantly be pulled between:
love and loss grief and gratitude pain and purpose.
But how brave it is to allow yourself space for the tension, to know that seemingly opposite things can all be true at once and to hold them all in your hand at once, in your heart at once.
-Liz Newman🌿

I was putting new jewelry out yesterday afternoon when Darlene stopped in for a project. A relative and lover of the outdoors, had recently passed. I have created a few other pieces for Darlene over the years, both for herself and in memory of others.

A reminder his light is still with them.

Mandy was visiting this week with family. Everyone was up from NE, except her sister Sue. Sue and Mandy have always enjoyed shopping and having a great time together. Over the winter Sue passed away. She was a “jewelry girl” and always picked out a bracelet when she was here. Mandy picked one out this year for herself in memory of Sue.

Not a dry eye in line.

We appreciate being a part of your story.

Here’s a few new stunning bracelets I stuck out yesterday.

It’s Nisswa Farmers Market Day!

Bird is the word I refilled Cindy’s goodies, but now we’ve got new empty spaces. By next weekend I’ll have Jordan’s basket refilled.

I hope you have a terrific Thursday. I’m open 10 to 5.

Be kind. Be genuine. Be real.

In a world full of chaos, pets remind us to enjoy the simple
moments. 🌿

It’s National Work Like A Dog Day, yes it’s totally a day.

And in my chaos of my life, I realized yesterday I wrote the other day -Crazy Days was this weekend, it is actually NEXT weekend.

The rest of the this week is 10-5.

In celebration of this pawsitively fun day, here’s a print that has made so many of us smile and so dog gone happy. Available in 12x16.

The book If We Were Dogs is back in the shop. A great book for those kiddos 2-7.

Miss Stella says enjoy the day near the pool, but not in it! Just kidding she’ll be napping and recovering from all her fun at NPL in Crosslake yesterday.

I met a few future Bulldogs yesterday. Their purchases, gave it away. One was headed to the theater department in a couple weeks, so we chatted about the NorShor Theater. Another an engineer, headed up next week and an upcoming senior in high school with plans to attend and become a trauma specialist for children. Go Dogs!

There are only a couple turtle races left this season- this week and next.

If you’re headed to Brainerd, the Crow Wing County Fair started yesterday. I heard there is a great space for parents to cool down with their little ones and take a break in the curling building.

Bird is the word I will bring up the last of the fall plunkers. There was quite a line yesterday that everyone had that same plunker. I can only imagine the conversation back by the shelf and throughout the store, looking for them.

Always a good time in the shop!

Have a wonderful Wednesday. Look for the glimmers.

Be kind. Be complementary. Don’t forget to smile, it’s a wonderful thing to pass on to others.

She watched the star twinkle and twinkle.
She thought it was winking just for her. ✨

Our hanging timer lights have arrived. Just like our fun fairy lights we’ve carried for years, but these can hang indoors off a garland on a mantle or in a wedding, on a hook, in a Christmas tree or mixed in a big plunker. Sarah picked up 3 yesterday. She’s hanging them in staggering heights in a corner of her living room above her plants. She’s covering the battery packs with a piece of greenery.

Available in 2 sizes and 2 colors of wire- copper or silver.

Large comes with remote. Both have 6 hour timer built in.

We’ve also got a sweet garland in copper wire. Available in battery or electric. They look stunning with the autumn greenery, just saying!

As of today, 59 days until the puck drops on UMD Bulldog hockey. In honor and excitement I added the small copper light to my Bulldog cup to brighten up my shelf. So fun!

Several MN made Bulldog prints and stickers have headed out the door recently for some new dogs this fall.

Bird is the word I’ll have our Pequot Bobber magnet and several other goodies from Cindy back in the shop midweek. The Flowers’ Festival book is back on the front table. Our handpainted magnets are getting painted as we speak. I’ll let you know when they’ve arrived.

Thank you for supporting small. It’s been great chatting with you from Thief River Falls, to Motley to Chicago to Virginia. And even that sweet lady from Phoenix who claimed she brought that hot summer weather with her…. I asked her politely to take it back with her in her suitcase! Glad she did.

Look for the glimmers when you least expect them. I found one last night at the grocery store. Super One in Pequot is open until 9pm now 7 days a week! If you shop there, please thank them.

Have a terrific Tuesday. I’m open 10-5.

Be kind. Be thankful. Give some grace to those you meet on your path today.

May August lead you back to what brings you joy-and closer to what gives your life meaning. 🌿

Happy International Owl Awareness Day.

Over the weekend, one of the gardeners from Crosslake was telling me her son lives down in Houston, Minnesota. Apparently they’ve got a wonderful German restaurant. He brings her horseradish and a few other goodies each time he comes to visit.

Wouldn’t you know I saw a little ad for the International Owl Center down in Houston mentioning this celebratory day.

You may remember a few years back, I met a language interpreter who volunteers there. She was up on vacation and we were chatting owls in the shop.

If you happen to be near, there are several events throughout the day and really all year.

Last evening I was out in my garden, cutting a few goodies to bring in. I love a good mix of zinnia flowers, herbs and a piece of coleus. They always make me smile tucked in my owl pot.

I was even greeted by the sound of our owls off in the woods, and a little hummingbird landed on my head for a quick second. Several glimmers when you least expect them.

Our little glazed and amazed owl pot measures about 5 inches tall. A great hostess gift with flowers from your garden.

I’m down to just a couple hand carved owl ornaments. If you’ve got somebody in mind for a gift, grab one before they are gone.

Our mini owl cookie cutter is both a hit and a hoot. Use for cheese, apples, meat, pancakes and for those that felt- it’s a great pattern.

Over the weekend Stan’s Owl book went off to several good homes. Plus a few of you picked up these books.

If you are an owl lover like the peeps in our family, celebrate the day! Decorate your burger or create a special ice cream dessert.

Bird is the word it’s Crazy Days next weekend. As always, our sale section in the back of the shop will have plenty for you all week!

Have an amazing start to the week.

I’ll be around 10 to 5.

Be kind. Seek the wisdom of the owl within you- look for a clear perspective, learn to see through illusions and deceptions as well as enjoy a bit of mystery in life.

Life is meant for spectacular adventures. Let your feet wander, your eyes marvel and your soul ignite. 🌿

A lot of marveling went on over the weekend. Wonderful to hear how much everyone who attended the LAFS Nisswa Garden Tour enjoyed the event.

The man with the long arms, Mr. Creative did the drawing.

Just because you feel anxious does not mean something is wrong. 🌿

Many have asked, so I brought back a favorite read- After the Rain. Part memoir and part guide, Elle shares stirring stories from her own remarkable journey from self-doubt to self-love.
This soulful collection is filled with illuminating reflections on loss, fear, bravery, healing, love, acceptance, and more.

Take time this new month to slow down your pace and take time for what is important, choose things to let go of that you can’t control, and slow that anxious mind.

Both books- Calm Moments For Anxious Days and One Minute Prayers to Unwind a Worried Mind spark a lot of good conversations at the counter.

It’s National Sunflower Day today. A perfect place to enjoy the day is down at Country Sunshine MN , south of Brainerd. Here’s a photo of ol Stella playing a tune amongst the sunflower patch last year at this time. Put it on your places to visit and check out their page for more info.

Day two of the Nisswa Garden Tour is going on. I hope round two is as enjoyable as round one was. Grab your tickets online and catch the bus at the Nisswa Chamber this morning.

Down the road from us near our friends at The Outreach Program are some new friends at The Good Village Co.
They are hosting a Handcrafters Collective today from 9-4.

A little quirky fun fact I forgot to mention yesterday… my head must’ve been in outer space that morning…

Yesterday was George Jetson‘s 4th birthday. (I know, I know, you’re going what?) Set in the year 2062, George Jetson was 40 years old on the Jetsons. This means he was born in the year 2022, making him 4.

Crazy to think we have those video calls, smart watches, and robot vacuums…. Just the thought of that makes me want go to for a walk in the woods.

Have a super Saturday, I’ll be open at 10.

Be kind. Be real. Enjoy this new month and the change it can bring.
