Before my mom’s accident I was getting ready to start up my Resale Game at the local flea markets, collecting gems here and there, to sell and earn some extra income. I have a good eye.
I had done this before, almost 20 years ago, in Oakland, at my little “Shop By The Lake” I called it, and I did this on “stealth mode” at Lake Merritt without a permit, during weekends.
I had so much success, even met Bardo Martinez, from Chicano Batman who was passing by with his little sister, just chilling and strolling by at the lake, before heading to sound check for their act that evening.
This was way before they had Hit It Big. Just another LA Band passing through. I had never heard of them 😂 I Sold Him a Pair of vintage Bellbottom pants I had found on EBay a few months back. He was so excited. I thought, dam he really likes clothes. 😀 he just kept marveling and praising everything I had in my “shop”. He said, “I love what you’re doing here.” I felt validated because at the time, there were only a handful of folks doing this at The Lake.
Anyway, he gave me his contact info in case I found more cool clothes. I never heard back though, cuz CHICANO BATMAN EXPLODED a Year Later. 😅🥹
FYI — my little SHOP BY THE LAKE came to a sad ending after some random KAREN walking her Pampered Breed in my in my vicinity, and upon seeing the crowd of folks flocking my shop, and having fun, decided to stop by to ask, “do you have a permit to do this???”
And don’t ya know, this uptight Cow Called The City on my Ass. Ugh. These Envious Haters Make Oakland miserable for The Real People.
