I almost didn't share this because she's not finished.
But then I realized that's kind of the whole point.
For years, I avoided painting people because I had already decided I couldn't.
My first portrait made me wonder if it was just beginner's luck.
So... here's portrait number two.
I'm realizing this has a lot less to do with painting than I thought. It's about questioning the stories we tell ourselves.
How many things have I missed out on because I decided who I was before I ever gave myself a chance?
I'm still learning. She's still unfinished.
Maybe we both deserve a little more grace while we figure it out.

I've been sitting here trying to think of what to post, and honestly, my thoughts keep landing on my husband.
A few days ago we celebrated our anniversary. Tomorrow is Father's Day and his birthday.
We've spent 13 years together and 8 years married, and when I look at this life we've built, I see how much of it exists because of him.
Not just Ember Crafts.
The boys.
The homeschool days.
The projects.
The dreams.
The roof over our heads.
All the everyday things that keep life moving.

We clicked 13 years ago, and we're still choosing each other every day. We do life side by side. Running errands, tackling projects, raising our boys, and talking through every new idea that comes along.
I'm usually the one fixing what breaks or taking things apart to rebuild them, and he's the one carrying the steady weight of work, responsibility, and all the things most people don't see.
STILL, after all this time, he listens to every new idea I bring him.

There wouldn't be an Ember Crafts by Josie without him.
Every piece I make is built on a foundation he helped create.

So this post is for him.

Happy anniversary, happy birthday, and happy Father's Day to the man who makes so much of our life possible.

Thank you for choosing this life with me. I'd choose you all over again. ❤️ Dus Tin

I've been struggling to post lately, and I think it's because my heart is still catching up.

One of my longtime clients passed away recently. But calling her a client doesn't really feel right.

She worked with my mom when I was little at Hollywood Video. Back then, she would let me "help" by heat-wrapping VHS tapes and putting stickers on them. She always kept an eye and an ear out for me.

Years later, when I started my business, she was one of my biggest supporters. She always had ideas, projects, gifts she wanted made for friends and loved ones, and she trusted me to bring them to life. She was usually the first like and comment on my posts. Facebook may not have tracked that, but I knew… I saw it. I appreciated it so much….

The last time we talked, she told me she had another project in mind but wanted to wait until she could better articulate it.

I didn't know that day would never come.

Now I find myself wondering what wonderfully beautiful project she had planned. Who it was for. What story was behind it. Or maybe it was something she wanted for herself.

I'll never know, and I think that's part of what makes losing her so hard.

Thank you for believing in me for so many years. Thank you for supporting my work, encouraging my creativity, and cheering me on from the sidelines. I'll miss seeing your name pop up on every post.

The world feels a little quieter without you in it……

Nature absolutely fascinates me. Oh hi!!! 😅Just rambling, thanks for joining. 😆😅🤣

Nature doesn’t seem bothered by the idea of “free will.” It just exists in connection.

There are creatures on this Earth that literally depend on each other for survival. Tiny ecosystems living together. Forests communicating underground through root systems. Bees feeding flowers while flowers feed bees. Sloths carrying entire little worlds in their fur. (Seriously sloths are cool 😎)

Nothing in nature exists completely alone.
Everything affects something.

It makes it life matter more.

Humans are the same way.
Maybe purpose is found in the fact that we shape each other constantly.

A conversation can change a life.
A hug can calm a nervous system.
A song can keep someone alive another day.
A child can become confident because someone believed in them ONCE.

Your existence ripples outward in ways you will probably never fully see.

So.. I don’t think being shaped by the world removes meaning.
I think it proves we are part of something living, connected, and profoundly important to one another.

You matter. Your life matters.

A flower doesn’t need to understand free will to bloom. The sun still rises, people still love, art still moves us, children still laugh, and humans still leave fingerprints on each other’s lives. Meaning exists in the experience itself.

Supposedly one more day and the holes and floor will be fixed and I can have my space back. Should I have just set up somewhere else…. Probably… but I honestly didn’t know how long this the was gonna take. 😅🤷‍♀️
Will be burning again on Sunday.
