Book recommendation time!

✨😍"The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern"😍✨

This is the first book I have fully read in a long time! I really enjoyed this. I can say as an herbalist who is still learning, this was so interesting to look at. The herbal formulations (not gonna recommend without a doctor consultation) but they seem pretty spot on.

The book is about a young woman named Augusta Stern, and her father's pharmacy. Shortly after losing her mother, Augusta's great aunt comes to live with them. Helping hold the family together, and she brought with her some interesting tools. Then a young boy walks into her life...

Fast forward many years later, and Augusta is about to be 80. Never married, had a career in hospital work. Her niece reccomendations a retirement community, Rallentando Springs. Just as Augusta is settling in, she spots an old, familiar face...the same young man who used to work in her father's pharmacy. Heartbroken, she had never intended to see him ever again, but I suppose fate has other plans.

♦️I'm gonna make a note though. ⚠️Mandrake Root⚠️, in this novel is used, but can be very dangerous to use if not used properly. And as an herbalist, I would strongly recommend an alternative. Look up it's effects and be very cautious.♦️

With that said, the book is very interesting. A great 🔍🧐mystery with a touching and imperfect love story.🫂 Which I am a huge fan of. If you like books that have a bit of 🌿herbalistic🌿 flair to it, id strongly recommend this book as a fun source of entertainment. 👍🏻

🪏 This is from my personal garden. Im growing a few new 🌿herbs this year, but this herb in particular I save every year. Not the one in my hand, but the one next to it.

Both are usually growing in this time of year and will continue to mature until there's frost. The plant I have in my hand is amaranth, I believe. I'm sure it has uses, but I currently don't need it. It also is a big spreader. So im trying to slow it's spread by reducing it back at this small size.

The plant next to it has many names: white goosefoot, fat hen, pigw**d, wild spinach, bacon w**d, frost-blite, and melde.

Family: Amaranthaceae
Genus: Goosefoots
Order: Caryophyllales
Scientific name: Chenopodium album

Natural uses: I cultivate and use this plant because a species of butterfly or moth eats this! Not sure which one, but I'm good with native species having a good source of food. I also grow it to feed to my chickens! They LOVE the leaves of this plant. Yum! If you let white goosefoot grow, it almost grows like a large shrub, and wild birds love it! It also forms this round "berries" on it. I've never used them, but birds and chickens love it.

🧺Happy gathering! 🌿🪏

♦️ Note: this plant is edible, in fact, it can be cooked like spinach! But, this plant is highly sprayed with pesticides. So be cautious where you pick it. It popped up in my garden at one point, (thanks birds!) and I've just cultivated it from there.

We all may have a vitamin routine or beauty routine, but I wanted to post my personal herbal routine! 🫂🌿

These are the herbs and supplements I use to help manage my illness. As you may already know, I have 💊Hashimotos Thyroiditis💊 and for now I take Levothyroxine. This autoimmune condition can wreak havoc on the body and it's different systems. I found that it effects the big "M"s:

🏃🏻‍♀️Movement: stiffness, cold feeling, aches and pains.

💭Mentality: a lot of brain fog, more forgetfulness than usual. Maybe even confusion.

🥣Metabolism: My metabolism slowed way down. My gut felt paralyzed. Food would not move through my system, but I would just eat and eat! Nothing would satisfy me. Weight gain, I would try to eat very little but the scale would not move.

When I started taking levothyroxine, everything started moving properly, but I was still lacking in energy and felt like I needed help. I began reading and found these supplements with the help of my husband.

I love announcing what is new!

I'm doing a lot of things that help support the body, achieve wellness so the body can do its thing and heal on its own.

The garlic honey 🍯 🧄has been a great start in supporting the immune system. I want to continue that work!
Another chunk of Finders Keepers is about replacements of every day beauty items. So here's what's next in the works!

1. Deodorant! I specifically had someone ask me to make some, and I'm working on it! I want to have items to replace certain things we use every day! Deodorant is one of those things.

2. Rose hips! I've always seen rose hips, but after some recent study, I've found they are a great source of vitamin C and other great herbal synergies! It makes a great syrup with molasses, and you can ferment them! Best part? When you ferment them in honey, it turns the honey red!! ❤️🍯 How fun! I look forward to making it!

3. Rose oil! Im using the heat method right now to make some rose petal oil! Ive always wanted to work with roses! It's just so soft and it has the most amazing smell! 🌹 I can't wait until it's done!

Look for these things and more as we grow and evolve! See y'all soon! Don't forget we will be at Crafting with Linda this Saturday!
