The latest hardwood to enter the shop is Osage Orange. Osage Orange is a beautiful wood from the southern Midwest! The heartwood is golden to bright yellow, which usually ages to a darker medium brown with time, primarily due to exposure to UV light. Osage.

Here are the finished products made from wormy butternut: a decorative serving tray featuring rustic, hand-forged handles and a decorative tray riser.

Brian at Lakeshore Hardwoods had four wormy butternut pieces that kept calling my name! Not only were they filled with wormholes, but they were also punky in several spots. This called for my first use of TotalBoat penetrating epoxy. Stay tuned, as I’ll review the finished products tomorrow!
