Things are really heating up for THESE TWISTED HEARTS, coming your way in early 2027! We're in the middle of final pass pages, cover design, and so many other fun things! This is the time when it starts to get really exciting! As we're gearing up for all that, I wanted to share a little bit more about this story, and the inspiration behind it!
I was born and raised in Oklahoma. That's Main Street in Chandler, the small town where I grew up, smack in the middle of red dirt country, in the upper-left photo. And like any good Okie kid, I made weather-watching a habit and a hobby early on. My daddy watched the Oklahoma skies with equal parts awe and fear, and he passed that love of a good storm right down to me. He was known to stick my mother and younger siblings and me down in the basement and then spend hours watching the television news or standing in the front yard waiting for all hell to break loose. More than once he left us down there underground and fell asleep.
You can take the girl out of Oklahoma, but maybe you can’t take the Oklahoma out of the girl, because I’ve lived in several different states now and I still always keep one eye toward the clouds. Just in case. And I still have a deep, almost aching love for flat, wide-open landscapes and eerie, backlit skies.
THESE TWISTED HEARTS is a wild ride. It's part horror story and part love story, but it isn’t just about the romantic love that grows between Jubilee and Star. It’s also about the love we have for our families and for the communities that grow us up, despite the sometimes twisting nature of those roots. And it’s about the deep love of place. How we can love a particular landscape or a patch of earth with such ferocity that it brings us to our knees. It’s about that sense of belonging when you look out the window and the familiar curve of a dirt road tells you that you’re home.
I hope this story sweeps you away, like the wind roaring across the Oklahoma plains. Steeped in storm magic, buried sins, and ferocious longing, THESE TWISTED HEARTS is unleashing all its fury in February, so get ready! Be sure to add it on Goodreads now and put it on your TBR! There's a storm coming!
