Craving a privacy screen in your backyard living space? This handsome hornbeam is an ideal choice when planted en masse. It has dark green leaves that turn a pretty yellow in the fall. Smooth, slate-gray bark is ornamental in winter.

At 40 to 60 feet tall and 30 to 40 feet wide at maturity, European hornbeam also works well in city parkways, residential parks and wide median strips. The tree is a slow-to-moderate grower, rising about 1 foot per year.

Looking for a garden plant that draws pollinators but is generally resistant to deer and rabbits? Foxglove beardtongue fits the bill!

Pretty pink bell-like flowers bloom from mid-spring through early summer. Foxglove's not fussy about soil conditions and is pest and disease resistant, too. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall and forms clumps about 1 to 2 feet wide. Plant in full sun to part shade, USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 8.

This just might be the sweetest plant you see today! This Siberian iris gets its name from upper petals that are creamy white like sugar. Lower petals are the color of butter.

'Butter and Sugar' iris grows from rhizomes and likes full sun to partial shade. Plant in USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 9 for late spring to early summer blooming.

Candy-color coralberry produces plump, pink, inedible berries in early fall. The deciduous shrub signals the end of summer as its delicate flowers fade and swell into tiny, prolific pearls.

As trees drop their leaves, these bubblegum-pink to amethyst-purple berry clusters remain tightly packed throughout the winter. Topping off at about 2.5- to 3-feet wide, coralberry has arching branches. This makes it ideal in borders on the corner of a property. It's also beautiful in cottage gardens and in erosion-prone areas where its roots can help stablize the soil. But beware, coralberry's beautiful berries are strictly not for consumption.
