Dahlias really said “you get ONE chance to cut me right” and meant it.

Unlike that bouquet of grocery store tulips, dahlias do NOT keep opening in the vase once you cut them. Whatever stage they’re at in the garden when you cut them, they are stuck at forever. Cut too early and you have basically adopted that bud that will never grow up.

This is the sweet spot - not tight, not fully blown open and dropping petals on your counter. Juuuust right.

It takes a little practice to train your eye for it, but once you start paying attention you’ll see the difference.

Tag a dahlia loving friend who is Goldilocks looking for that juuuust right.

THEY’RE HEREEEEE! (Finally!)

The dahlias were slow to bloom this year- very slow- and for a while we wondered if we were even farming right!

But then, almost all at once…they arrived with a bang!

This handful was all I could hold in one hand, but, had I actually been prepared with a bucket on my evening walk about, I could have kept picking. Although, I’m sure you can hear the soundtrack of our little farm in the background yelling “MOM” for who knows what reason, so I actually probably couldn’t have kept picking and the handful was just enough 😂

Nothing like harvesting buckets of lisianthus at 9 PM before the sun goes down… but LOOK HOW PRETTY. 🥹🌸
These beauties are headed to local florists and event designers, and will also be making their way into our subscription bouquets and custom orders.

After all the flooding here in Michigan, we weren’t sure our peonies would survive.

Now, we walk the rows and hear:

“It’s growing good” 🌸

And somehow… it really is.

This season was almost a wash.

Looks like we’ll have peonies to share with you after all 🤍
