Hey! My name’s Julie and I’m the face behind Lacey & Mowbray Designs. While I live in Palmer, Alaska, in the stunning Matanuska-Susitna Valley, I’m actually a Canadian-born 🇨🇦 gal who moved to Arizona at 41 to marry an American guy 🇺🇸 (who I met in high school in Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 and fell in love with 24 years later 🥰). Together we moved to Alaska in 2023 to escape the Phoenix heat and welcomed our son shortly thereafter. 💛

We LOVE Alaska. To say it’s stunning is an understatement, but it also has a unique culture that is, interestingly, a sweet blend of everything I love about Canada and the US.

My small business sprung out of a random doodle session a couple of years ago that turned into an entire line of colorful and vibrant pieces showcasing Alaska’s landscapes, wildlife and flowers. It’s a privilege to be able to bring this diverse state alive in my art. 🌼

Don’t forget I have a small line of non-Alaskan pieces, too, for those of you who connect with my art from around the world. 🤗

It’s been fun learning about local history as I take on new design projects. The Palmer water tower is an iconic landmark dating back to 1935 when 200 farming families were brought to Alaska from the Midwest to colonize the area. A rich land with a rich history. 🌳

There were multiple times today where I needed to just stop and take a few deep breaths. The to-do list seemed too long. Business tasks were piling up too fast. The toddler needed extra love. In reality, it didn’t all have to happen today…but my brain needed help seeing that. 😮‍💨

What are some ways you find helpful to refocus and shift your perspective? 💛
