Dog in the house!
A few people have paid me some nice compliments about my house always looking clean lately, and some have ask me why I have a white sofa and a white bed when I have a black dogs!
The compliments are very nice, thank you. And no, I don't spend all day cleaning and I don't have a live in maid!
But I do have some tricks that help me get over some of my hurdles owning a black dogs and let's not forget the man in the house...lol! Sorry honey! Actually, he is pretty good about helping me. He is trained! Somewhat! 😉 During Covid it has been even harder to keep up!
Ok, as for the couch...I use to have an elderly basset that had cream colored hair and it didn't show as bad as the black. I re-upholstered the couch with her hair as a guide to the color option. I also cover my couch. I buy cheap flat sheets and mattress covers and all cotton throws at Goodwill. I have even gone to Louisville Bedding and purchased crisp cotton white sheeting in a roll. I vacuum the couch weekly, when I vacuum my house. Hardwood floors are the best! Less vacuuming!!
I throw the sheets over my bed every night. Take it off the next day. If it is dirty, throw it in the wash. I have seven flat sheets, four mattress covers. I cut the band off around the edges so you have a flat quilted pad! Twin size is the best size for sofas and chairs. Queen and King for the beds. And I bought a few baby mattress sheets for the dog beds. They work great!
Maggie & Tati have a basket where all the dog covers go in.
As for bath towels, I went to a hotel resale place in Norfolk when I lived there and purchased used hotel towels (all white) for .25 cents each. The large ones were .50. You can also buy them at yard sales.
Btw, I have too many towels! But all the dog towels go next to where I bathe them. I have two laundry baskets. One for dirty stuff. I wash the dog stuff separate from ours, to keep down the dog hair. And one for the fresh folded sheets and covers.
Floors- oh sometimes I want to scream!! The dog hair!! This is why we have hardwood floors throughout our house, except for the bedrooms. Which in reality, if I had three dogs again, I would have wood floors in the bedroom too!
I use a dust mop everyday first thing in the morning when the light is good.
Eureka! I love this system!
I use a Norwex mop system. The type you pull off and toss in the wash. I use the Norwex Pet Hair Brush before washing the pads, even sheets and blankets! It’s great!
I have two white dusting pads, 6 wet mopping pads. Love them!! So simple, my Grandmother would flip!!! Takes me a total of 4 minutes to dust mop and 20 minutes to wet mop 2200 sq ft. I only wet mop once a week.
Once every two weeks I steam clean my floors. 30 minutes! I dust every two weeks. Spring clean every 6 months.
I also have a drawer where I purchase a stack of bar towels for emergencies. They have saved the day on many occasions! A little bleach or oxygen cleaner and they are brand new again.
So please know, my house isn't always clean. And please don't think I judge anyone for not having a spotless home! I never do! I love my home to feel warm, clean and welcoming. Sometimes I am a**l about my space.
My family calls me "The White Tornado"! 🤍🌪
I have been cleaning since I was old enough to dust furniture 6 years old!
I loved it when my Mom would put a record on the stereo and we would dance around the house cleaning! Makes it go by faster! My problem is stopping! Lol once I'm started... I can't stop!
My sister said the other day, "this is the worst I've seen your house, with the clutter"! She was right! I am going through and getting rid of stuff, and cleaning makes a mess. I'm good with that!
Sometimes I'm embarrassed when someone sees my house dirty, or cluttered...but this is life!
I hope this helps you battle the life with dog hair and dog messes. Children and yes, husbands. And I can make a mess better than anyone!
