Who’s ready to make some Christmas ornaments?

I love paint pouring because you never know exactly how the colors are going to come together. Every ornament ends up looking a little different!

And you know I’m always finding ways to make crafting easier without spending a lot of money.

For this project, I made my own ornament stand using two pieces of floral foam, wax paper, a rubber band, and a popsicle stick.

It worked beautifully!

I used acrylic paint with pouring medium. One of my favorites is Floetrol, which I usually pick up at Lowe’s.

Once your ornament is completely dry, you can seal it with Mod Podge or a compatible clear acrylic spray if you prefer a smoother finish.

Now I have a question for y’all…

Once your business is registered, apply for your sales, use, and hotel occupancy tax license through the state, yes it has hotel in the name, no you don't need a hotel, it's just the name of the license category that covers general sales tax too.

Once you have that number, you can shop at wholesale prices and skip paying retail on your supplies.

Deep dive worth knowing, that tax exemption specifically applies to items you're reselling or using to make the product you sell, it's not a blanket exemption on every business purchase. And the bulk pricing and the tax exemption are actually two separate benefits, one comes from your resale number, the other from a bulk buying program like MichaelsPro, which is real and does offer tax exempt, bulk priced shopping with no membership fee. You'll want to sign up for both pieces separately to get the full benefit.

Apply for your PA tax license at mypath.pa.gov, and look up MichaelsPro directly at michaels.com.

Let's clear something up. Sole proprietor and LLC are both real businesses. An LLC doesn't make you more legitimate, it just changes your legal structure.

For both, your business income passes through to your personal tax return. That's called pass-through taxation, meaning the business itself doesn't pay a separate tax, you report it on your regular 1040.

The real difference, if you're a sole proprietor using a name other than your own, you'll file a DBA. With an LLC, you get some limited liability protection in the event of a lawsuit or bankruptcy, meaning in most cases the business is responsible, not you personally.

Deep dive worth knowing, that LLC protection only holds up if the LLC is properly maintained, kept separate from your personal finances, and you haven't personally guaranteed a debt. It is not an automatic shield in every situation.

Start at irs.gov for federal basics and business.pa.gov for Pennsylvania specifics.
