The BURCS Tails & Trails State Forest Run is officially UNDERWAY! 🏃♂️
Every finisher is taking home an award, and I must say, I think they came out great! I can't wait to see them in the hands of today's runners! ✨
Runners started off with a brief 0.1 mile run down the paved Circuit Road before popping into the forest. Right now, they're tackling a variety of the best the forest has to offer: single-track trails, rolling hills, and plenty of rocks and roots to keep them on their toes!
They hit Whirlpool Ravine, hang a hard right onto Beaver Tail trail, and cruise past the Beaver Pond. From there, it’s all about those flow-y mountain bike trails, winding through sections of pine trees until they hit one of the aid stations.
From there, the "home stretch" is about two miles of pure flow, more gorgeous pines, giant boulders, and... well, if they have a keen eye, a few slightly terrifying stuffed animals watching from the woods. 🧸👀 (Consider it extra motivation to run faster!)
I'm wishing fast feet and positive energy to all participants out in the forest today, and sending a big THANK YOU to all volunteers, friends, family, and spectators!
Special thanks to the Pittsfield State Forest and to Berkshire Ultra Running Community for Service (BURCS) for hosting this wonderful event that supports three local animal rescue nonprofits:
* Red Robin Song Animal Sanctuary (New Lebanon, NY) - A favorite that many of you remember and love from the old Vegan Power 50k days!
* Berkshire County Turtle Rescue (Pittsfield, MA) - A non-profit organization dedicated to helping sick and injured turtles in Berkshire County.
* No Paws Left Behind (North Adams, MA) - Carrying on the legacy of the Eleanor Sonsini Shelter, they do amazing work rescuing and rehoming stray and abandoned animals.
* Berkshire Bird Paradise (Petersburg, NY) - For over 50+ years, they’ve been a dedicated safe haven and refuge for injured or displaced birds.
