A friend who is trying to get started in the retail industry recently asked me what my “secret” is and what my best piece of advice for success would be.
I literally laughed out loud.
Because truthfully, most days I don’t feel like I’ve reached some level of success. Most days, we’re just trying to keep our heads above water, figure out the next move, and keep going.
But I sat with that question for a few days, and eventually my answer became really clear:
My greatest asset is my husband.
He is, without a doubt, my strongest support system and one of the smartest businessmen I know. His wheels are constantly turning. He sees things from angles I would never think to look at. He challenges my ideas, helps me think bigger, and has played such a huge part in helping me build these businesses into what they are.
And the thing that means the most? He does all of that while having businesses, responsibilities, and plenty of things of his own that need his attention. Somehow, he is still always in my corner: helping me find a way, talking me through the hard decisions, and wanting my businesses to succeed just as much as I do.
So maybe that actually is my best piece of business advice:
Be incredibly picky about who you surround yourself with.
Your spouse. Your friends. Your employees. Your mentors. The people you allow to speak into your life and your business matter more than you realize.
Surround yourself with people who challenge you, encourage you, tell you the truth, see things you can’t see, and genuinely want to watch you win.
Success may have your name on it, but very rarely is it built by you alone. 🤎
