This picture is full of EMTs, dispatchers, helicopter crews, paramedics, firefighters, and medical staff. To everyone else, they’re just everyday people. Somebody’s mom or dad. Somebody’s son or daughter. The people you pass in public without ever knowing the lives they’ve touched.
To me and my family, they’re the people who showed up when my heart finally decided it had enough.
While we were at the Peach Festival, Dakota recognized one of them and asked if we could get a picture. We thought maybe one or two would be there. Instead, they all came together, and I honestly don’t have the words to thank every person standing in this photo.
Over the past two years, these people have helped save my life multiple times. Because of them, I’m still here. Because of them, I get to be a wife, a mom, a daughter, and make memories I almost never got to have.
As we stood there talking, one of the paramedics shared stories from the day they responded. We laughed about how he thought he was going to have to shove a breathing tube down my throat because of how bad things were.
Then he looked at me and said something I’ll never forget:
“Everybody has one call they’ll never forget… and you were mine.”
That broke me.
These men and women see people on what is often the worst day of their lives. They carry those memories long after the sirens stop. Most of us will never truly understand the weight they carry, yet they still answer the next call without hesitation.
I’ll never be able to repay what every person in this picture has done for me and my family. But I hope they know how grateful I am.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for never giving up on me.
Thank you for giving me more time with the people I love.
I am here because of you. ❤️
