ATTENTION PARENTS: It's that time of year again!

ODFW will host a series of free upland game bird hunts for youth hunters starting in September. The hunts will take place around the state and youth hunters (age 17 and under) who have completed hunter education by the time of the event can sign up now for a hunt.

The good news? He was close. A beginner posted this photo, expecting a quick yes-or-no. Instead, he stumbled into a full-blown wacky rig clinic.

Hooking a Senko-style stick worm through the middle is what makes a wacky rig efficient. The bait falls horizontally, both ends shimmy on the descent, and that slow, subtle action is often all it takes to convince a finicky bass to eat. It's one of the simplest and most productive presentations you can tie on.

The circle hook raised a few eyebrows in the chat. It'll catch, but most of us reach for a dedicated wacky or Neko hook, designed specifically for a cleaner hookup with a stick worm.

Another tip worth stealing: slide an O-ring onto the middle of the worm and run your hook under the ring instead of through the plastic. You'll go through a lot fewer worms without changing the action.

That's fishing. One honest question can save you a dozen trips to the tackle shop and maybe help you catch a few more bass along the way. What's one fishing tip another angler gave you that you'll never forget?
