Canadian wildfires said “here’s some free ambiance” and now the lake looks like the opening credits of a horror movie. Windows shut and no AC… the dogs and I are trapped inside like hostages — but at least Mother Nature had the decency to keep it cool today. Silver linings, people!

After nearly 8 years, today was the last time Peachtree Street was open in Powell. Right now, I genuinely don't have the words, which, y'all know is saying something.

Thank you. For every visit, every purchase, every time you walked in just to say hi. For the regulars who became friends and the strangers who became regulars. You showed up for me, year after year, and I will never forget that.

Now, we are going to finish packing up this store, maybe shed a tear or two, then I'm running to the lake for some much needed down time. Will I actually rest? I mean, I'll be there physically, but my brain already has other plans and we all know it. lol

As for what's next. Honestly? I'm still figuring it out. But that's the thing about a next chapter: you don't have to have it all mapped out before you turn the page. What I do know is that you'll be the first to find out, because y'all know I'm taking you with me on whatever this next adventure looks like.

I wouldn't have it any other way.❤️

I was across town when Punk #3 called from the shop.

“Mom, flowers just got delivered. Is there a special occasion?”

No. There wasn’t. Not really.

I got to the shop and read the card and that’s when I lost it.

Not because the store is closing. But because of everything the store has given me.

Customers who became friends. Women who opened their own doors and then held mine open too. Connections I never could have predicted when I signed that first lease almost eight years ago.

Julie owns Heart ‘n Home in Laurens, Iowa. We don’t get to see each other in person nearly enough…but she gets it - the weight of it, the beauty of it, all of it - in the way that only another shop owner can.

She sent flowers to my closing week just because and the card simply said, “You got this. Love, Julie”

And I think I do.
