Last week, a detailed question came up during an OPEN PLAY session. It was a situation I had not seen or specifically learned about. I had read about similar situations but this one had one distinct difference. I always want to provide the correct and credible answers - and I am always learning new things too!

So I turned to one of the most credible and respected sources in the Mahjong community, Michelle Frizzell. I am sharing the question and the detailed information that directly answers this questions - so we can all learn together. I hope this is helpful to you too as you improve your game. Thank you Michelle!!!

Here is the link where you can find the answer PLUS lots of additional information about jokers:

QUESTION:

Player A discards a dragon. Player B verbalizes “call” and begins her turn by placing the dragon on the flat of her rack and adds to it to create a pung exposure. Since this started her turn, she then does a joker exchange with a player, can she add the joker to the pung for mahjong since it all happened during the same turn? There is some ambiguity when I look this up in Mah Jongg Made Easy.
