Listening to Sandra Bullock talk about Practical Magic 2 during her press tour, she shared something that really stayed with me: as women grow older, we tend to embrace the witchiness within us.
She opens up about how it was always there, and that we finally reach an age where we listen to it.
I resonated with that so much.
It’s in our intuition, our gut feelings, and those little “spidey senses” that tell us when something feels right or when it doesn’t. With age, we don’t suddenly develop those instincts. We reach a point where we finally trust them. We trust ourselves enough to listen and stop apologizing for knowing what we KNOW.
I think that’s one of the reasons I love reading tarot so much. To me, the cards aren’t necessarily giving us answers we don’t already have. They’re reflecting our own intuition back to us, holding up a mirror to the feelings and truths we already carry within. It helps us slow down long enough to hear what our deeper selves have been trying to say. Tarot gives that quiet inner voice a space to be heard.
Our witchiness also lives in the way women instinctively travel in packs at night because we know we’re safer and stronger together. It’s in the unspoken understanding of walking one another to the car, waiting until everyone is safely inside, and texting, “Let me know when you get home.” There is something ancient in the way women protect one another. Passed down through generations, even if no one ever taught us the words for it.
And it’s there for me most when I'm brewing something on the stove. Whether it’s tea, soup, jam, medicine, or a meal made for the people I love, stirring a pot has always felt like more than simply cooking to me. It feels like drawing something from the soul and offering it to the flame. It is when I feel closest to everyone in my life who has passed on. Pouring our love, memories, and magick into whatever we’re making feels like a spell all on its own.
Honestly, I feel like I’ve been leaning into this part of myself all along. I’ve never really shied away from the witch in me—the part that notices the signs, trusts the cards, follows her instincts, gathers with other women, and believes there is far more magick woven into everyday life than we’re often willing to admit. I am not waiting to "age" into this. It's the one part of myself I've been sure of all along and can always come home to.
Getting older isn’t about becoming a witch, even though yes I obviously want to be Sandra Bullock I mean COME ON, but truly it's about trusting the woman you've always been! We all have a little witch in us!!
