✨ A conversation you won't want to miss. ✨

From one autism mom to another. 💛

On Saturday, October 24 at 12:00 PM, Liberation Station Bookstore is honored to welcome New York Times bestselling author, disability advocate, and creator Tiffany Hammond for a special author conversation with our founder, Victoria Scott-Miller.

Together, they'll explore motherhood, autism, advocacy, belonging, and the power of stories to help us see one another more fully. As autism moms raising incredible children, this conversation will be both deeply personal and profoundly hopeful.

Following the discussion, Tiffany will sign copies of her New York Times bestselling picture book, A Day with No Words, and you'll have the opportunity to meet her and continue the conversation with our community.

Good news... the A/C is fixed! 🎉

We'll be back tomorrow, and we can't wait to welcome you home.

While our doors were temporarily closed today, we didn't spend the day standing still. We spent it investing in ourselves. We hit the gym Grant Ogbodo moved our bodies, cleared our minds, and reminded ourselves that caring for a community starts with caring for ourselves.

At Liberation Station, we believe literacy is more than reading books. It's about nurturing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. A strong mind deserves a strong body, and taking time to recharge means we can show up as our best selves for this community.

Thank you for your patience, your grace, and your continued support while we waited for the repairs to be completed. Your kindness never goes unnoticed.

We'll see you tomorrow. The books are waiting, the shelves are ready, and we can't wait to welcome you back to the Hill. 🤎📚

Our little bookstore is taking an unexpected pause today. 💛

Our air conditioning unexpectedly went out, and while we wait for Washington Terrace Management to complete the necessary repairs, we've made the decision to close. Nothing matters more to us than making sure every person who walks through our doors—our readers, families, staff, and volunteers—feels safe and comfortable.

Moments like this are also a reminder of why your support means so much.

Every donation to our GoFundMe and every monthly Ko-fi membership isn't just helping us dream about the future—it's helping us weather the unexpected. It gives us the ability to make the right decision for our community without having to choose between staying open in uncomfortable conditions and protecting the financial health of our bookstore.

That's what community care looks like.

When you become a Ko-fi member, make a donation, buy a book, or simply share our story, you're helping ensure that Liberation Station can continue to serve families even when life throws us a curveball.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in this work and for believing in us. We'll let you know the moment we're able to reopen, and we can't wait to welcome you back to the Hill.

Until then, thank you for holding us up the same way we've always hoped to hold up this community. 🤎

There are moments that make you stop and whisper, this is why.

Today was one of them.

When Emerson was born, no one could have convinced me that one day I'd watch him read a scholarship letter that would bring tears to his eyes.

For the first five years of his life, Emerson was nonverbal.

The world was quick to hand us a diagnosis. What it couldn't measure was his brilliance.

I made a decision early on that I would never parent the diagnosis more than I parented my son.

Instead of asking, What can't he do? I asked, What gifts haven't we uncovered yet?

So I filled our home with books. Stories where Black children dreamed big. Stories where disability wasn't the end of the story. Stories that reminded him, over and over again, that he was capable, worthy, joyful, and deeply loved.

Those stories became mirrors.

Those mirrors became confidence.

That confidence became possibility.

Today, Emerson was awarded an additional $17,000 in scholarship funding, bringing our family's out-of-pocket tuition for the school year to zero. With this award, he has now earned more than $30,000 in scholarships.

As he read the letter, he got emotional.

I did too.

Not because this scholarship defines him, but because it is another reminder that our children are so much bigger than the boxes the world places around them.

Children deserve to be seen for their potential—not just their diagnosis.

A diagnosis can help us understand how to support a child. It should never become the ceiling for what we believe they can become.

Emerson has always been brilliant.

The world is simply catching up to what we've known all along.

To every parent navigating therapies, evaluations, IEP meetings, and uncertainty: keep pouring into your child. Keep speaking life over them. Keep surrounding them with stories that tell them who they are before the world tries to tell them who they're not.

Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is believe in our children long enough for them to believe in themselves.

I'm so proud of you, Emerson. Thank you for reminding all of us what is possible. 🤎

For years, I was told that motherhood would slow me down.

Instead, it became my blueprint.

People often ask how I've managed to build Liberation Station while raising two incredible boys. The truth is... I stopped trying to fit motherhood into entrepreneurship and started building a business around motherhood.

That decision changed everything.

It means Emerson can climb into my lap while I answer emails.

It means my children know my work isn't competition for my love—they're a part of why I do it.

It means some meetings happen with little hands reaching for hugs, books scattered across the floor, and laughter echoing through the bookstore.

Is it always polished? Absolutely not.

Is it always easy? Definitely not.

But I've learned that success isn't measured by how well I separate my children from my purpose.

It's measured by whether the life I'm building is one they can grow up inside.

Liberation Station has never just been a bookstore.

It has always been a love letter to Black childhood.

And before it became a safe place for thousands of children, it had to be one for my own.

So if you see Emerson curled up in my lap while I'm working, you're not seeing a distraction.

You're seeing the reason.

The business I built wasn't designed to compete with motherhood.

It was designed to honor it. 💛

I know I told y'all I had some big news to share on Wednesday... but I decided to go ahead and drop it now.

We've been listening. We've been paying attention. And now we're making some changes at the Station.

✨ Starting TODAY, our new hours are:
📚 Monday–Saturday | 11:00 AM–6:00 PM

We've heard from so many of you that you wanted more opportunities to visit, and we're excited to make that happen.

Starting in September Sundays will now be dedicated entirely to community programming.

Our Autism Support Group is moving to Sundays, and we're creating space for something that's been on my heart for a long time.

Introducing So Your Family Is Changing, Huh?

This new initiative is for families navigating life's transitions. Whether you're experiencing divorce or separation, job loss, returning to the workforce after being a stay-at-home parent, or rebuilding after domestic violence, we want you to know you don't have to navigate it alone.

Domestic violence isn't always physical. It can be emotional. It can be psychological. It can be financial. Healing requires community, resources, and support.

That's why we'll also be partnering with legal aid so families have a place to ask questions, understand their rights, and access trusted resources while navigating these transitions.

More details about all of our Sunday programming will be available on our website soon.

This one is deeply personal to me.

I'm creating the support system I wish I had while navigating some of the hardest seasons my family has ever experienced. If Liberation Station has always been about helping our children see themselves, this next chapter is about making sure the adults who love them are seen, too.

Thank you for continuing to share your feedback with us. We've been listening... and now we're implementing those changes.

I can't wait to welcome you to Liberation Station's next chapter. 💛
