It’s time for our next DYRM? Vibe Check! Fall is fast approaching, so our vibe for September and October is Thrills & Chills! Our reads are all about horror, psychological thrills, Black girls surviving, and taking our power back.
This month, we’re reading Honey by Imani Thompson. Four words completely hooked us: Black feminist serial killer. Without giving away too much, just know Honey’s main character Yrsa tests her PhD research using unconventional methods, but the question is just how much can she get away with in the name of feminism and racial justice.
In October, we’re reading a horror anthology titled The Black Girl Survives in This One. This collection of short stories has a bit of every popular horror trope: from ghosts to lost in the woods. Most importantly, the black girl survives in every story. If you’re new to reading horror, we recommend you tap in. And if you want added effect, we highly recommend listening on audio!
**An important note about October’s meeting, we will be meeting on Monday, 10/26 at 6pm.**
