The tornado couldn’t keep us down for long, but keep in mind things do look different around the farm and we still do have a mess, so please don’t mind as we continue to pick up the pieces 🫠

A LaSalle County Farm is among those dealing with the fallout of record-breaking severe weather in Illinois this week.

Lauran Hill says Widman Meats (pictured below) was in the direct path of one of three EF-1 tornadoes that hit LaSalle and Lee counties Aug 9.

"Trees were completely uprooted, grain bins destroyed, multiple buildings demolished, equipment damaged, power lines down, poles snapped and crops flattened," Hill tells FarmWeek.

Not only were the farm's row crops damaged close to harvest, but the adjacent retail storefront is also closed as recovery continues.

"We are completely shut down and in clean up mode,” Hill says. “We had to move all of our meat inventory to our portable catering trailer to run off of a generator.”

US National Weather Service is still assessing damage and working to confirm how many tornadoes have touched down in the state this week, but so far, the total number for the year had exceeded 200 — well above the state annual record tornado count of 142 set in 2024.

Illinois has joined Texas as the only states in the U.S. to encounter 200-plus tornadoes in a single year.

We have one word: Thankful.
As much of you have heard, the Meat Shop and Farm was hit with an EF-1 tornado Sunday night. Everyone is okay, all the animals & livestock are good, so we are beyond thankful.

We have a lot of cleanup and just trying to wrap our heads around everything that happened, but thank you so much for the customers that checked in on us and those that showed up to help. 🤍

Also, extremely thankful for the linemen working on getting everyone’s power back in the area!

With all of that being said, we are shutting down the Retail Meat Shop for right now while we get everything back together and get the power back. We will keep you updated on when we are back open!
