Today we are kicking off something really special.

The challenge is LIVE.

Every person at the table has a story. A reason you sat down for the first time. A reason you never left. A moment the tiles gave you something you didn’t even know you needed.
We want to hear yours.

Record a short reel sharing WHY you mahjong. Tag . Use . Nominate three people to share their why.

We will repost every single story we see.
And here’s something extra special — share your why and you could have your story featured in our upcoming coffee table book WHY WE MAHJONG.
Because every person at the table has a story worth telling.
What’s yours?

We’ve had so many of you ask about kids’ classes, and we promised we’d only say yes when the fit was absolutely right. Friends, the wait is over. And she’s one of our very own Let’s Mahj Club members!

Meet Farrell — our newest instructor!

Married to the love of her life, proud mom to a vibrant 5.5-year-old, and a dedicated dog mom to 2 rescues! For her, Mahjong is the ultimate bridge between generations. After learning the game from her own mom, she was thrilled when her daughter showed interest—sparking a beautiful mother-daughter tradition. Now, she’s bringing that exact same magic to the community by teaching Mahjong to the next generation of players!

Her day job as an Innovative Learning Coach for Henrico County makes her uniquely qualified to turn complex tiles into pure fun for kids. When she isn’t empowering young minds at the table or at school, she’s painting, or chauffeuring her daughter to her 800,000 activities 🤪. Life is beautifully busy, but she’s on a mission to show that you’re never too young to fall in love with Mahj.

Welcome to the Let’s Mahj team, Farrell! We are SO happy you’re here!

The mahjong girlie, Sarah, who invented these line stickers deserves an AWARD. Did you know you can stick it right on your NMJL card so you always know which line you’re going for — and never have to fumble explaining your winning hand again?

Game. Changer. 🙌 Tag a player who needs this and save this before your next game night!

We didn’t come here to sell a book. We came here to change something.

This book exists because of a little girl who cannot tell me she is proud of me. But I know she is.

Anna Cate lives with Rett Syndrome — a rare neurological condition that took her ability to speak and move freely. She is my whole heart. She is the reason behind every single word in these pages. And right now — today — scientists are actively studying her actual mutation. Working toward a cure. Fighting for her future.

Every book sold puts more resources behind that work.

This is not just a purchase. This is not just a beautiful book for your coffee table. This is a step closer to a cure for my daughter and every child like her.

If this moves you — order your copy today.
If you know someone who needs this book — send it to them right now.
If you just want to be part of something bigger than yourself — share this post.
There is a role for every single one of you in this story. And we are so grateful you are here.

This is WHY WE MAHJONG.

For every woman who has ever sat down at the table carrying the weight of the week — and risen, two hours later, somehow lighter, somehow more herself.
This book is for you.

WHY WE MAHJONG is a coffee table book that captures the joy, the beauty, and the profound connection that happens around the mahjong table. Breathtaking photography. Writing that moves between the elegant and the deeply felt. A love letter to a game that gives us so much more than we ever thought to ask for. But it is also something more personal than that.

My daughter lives with Rett Syndrome — a rare neurological condition that has shaped every part of who I am and why I build what I build. Profits from every book sold will benefit the Rett Syndrome Research Trust — the world’s leading organization working to cure Rett Syndrome.
Every book purchased brings us closer to a world where she and every child like her gets the future they deserve.

This is the most important thing I have ever made. And I did not make it alone — my teammate and friend Lauren dreamed this with me from the very beginning.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow I share something I have poured my whole heart into.

Something for every woman who has ever come to the table needing more than a game.
Something for my daughter.
Something I hope the world will hold as carefully as I do.

See you in the morning at 9:00AM (EST)!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today, we pause the tiles and take a moment to honor the most important game of all — the beautiful, complicated, endlessly rewarding game of being a mother.

To the mothers in our community: you are the ones who taught us that showing up matters. That sitting around a table together — really together — is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other. You modeled grace under pressure, patience through the long rounds, and the kind of fierce, unconditional love that never runs out of tiles.

To those who mother without the title — the aunts, the grandmothers, the chosen family, the friends who have held us when we were falling — you count. You have always counted.

To those for whom today carries grief — who are missing their mom, longing to become one, or navigating the tender complexity of it all — we see you. We hold space for you. You belong at this table too.

Mahjong taught us that every hand is different, that the most beautiful wins are often unexpected, and that the game is always better when you’re surrounded by people you love. Mothers taught us the same thing about life.

Here’s to the women who make the world softer, stronger, and infinitely more worth showing up for. We love you beyond measure. 💕

“The most beautiful thing a mother gives is the courage to become yourself.”

With so much love,
Let’s Mahj RVA

No one ever comes to the table just for the tiles.

They come because they needed to get out of the house. Because a friend invited them and they almost said no. Because something in their life felt heavy and they needed two hours of light.

They come nervous. Unsure. Wondering if they’ll fit in. And then something happens.

The tiles start shuffling. Someone makes a joke. Someone else laughs a little too loud. And just like that — the week melts away. The weight lifts. And you look around the table and think — how did I almost miss this?

This is what mahjong does. It doesn’t just give you a game. It gives you a place to belong.
I have watched it happen hundreds of times. And it never gets old.

Something is coming that I hope captures this feeling forever.

Stay close.

I came to the table with an empty cup.

There was a season of my life where I was running on fumes. Caregiving. Mothering. Showing up for everyone around me.
I needed something that was just mine.
So I went back to the game my mother taught me more than thirty years ago. I wasn’t looking for anything extraordinary. I just needed somewhere to breathe.

What I found changed everything.
I found women who made me laugh until my sides hurt. I found two hours where the inbox went unanswered and the to-do list waited. I found a place where nothing was asked of me but presence.

More times than I can count, I have come to the table with an empty cup.
But without fail, whenever I leave — it is always full.

If you have ever felt that way at the table, this is for you.
Something is coming.
