A beautiful, peaceful morning at Hyla Nursery! 🌿🎨

It was a lovely morning at the nursery as a group of local artists settled in among the plants, birds, bees, and gentle breezes to sketch and create. There’s something wonderful about slowing down, spending time outdoors, and enjoying a little creativity among the plants. Thank you for spending your morning with us! 💚

Hyla Nursery is more than a place to shop for plants—it’s a place for community. 🌱 We want you to feel welcome to linger a while. Set up a chair and sketch, wander through the nursery, or bring a friend and enjoy your morning coffee at one of our tables. ☕🌿

Come for the plants, stay for the peaceful moments. 💚

I've been given an amazing opportunity to speak at the Ridgecrest Public Library about one of my favorite things... plants! 🌿📚

I'd love for you to stop by, support our library's programming, and spend an hour talking landscaping with me.

We'll cover topics like:
🌱 Choosing plants that thrive in our unique desert climate
💧 Water-wise gardening and irrigation tips
🌞 Overcoming the challenges of gardening in Ridgecrest
🌳 Creating beautiful landscapes that can handle our heat

If you know me, you know that when I'm not out in the garden, I usually have my nose in a book. I honestly can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than being surrounded by books while talking about plants. That's my little slice of heaven.

Calling all my fellow garden friends! 🌿🌞

Did you know the Maturango Museum has a Garden Club? One of the activities they hold is a monthly clean-up to help keep the museum grounds looking their best for our community and guests.

If you’re looking for a fun group of people to hang out with while simultaneously giving back to the community, getting some physical movement in, and soaking up your dose of Vitamin D, the Garden Club at the Maturango Museum is definitely your vibe. 💚🌵

Come dig in with us and help make a difference — one garden bed at a time!

Help us keep the Maturango Museum grounds beautiful! Make a difference by volunteering for our Garden Clean-Up Day. We’d love to see you there!

On windy days, we take advantage of the lighter traffic — both people and bees — to tackle gardening tasks that are a little harder to accomplish when the flowers are buzzing with pollinators. 🌬️🐝

When the wind picks up, most bees stay tucked away, giving us the perfect opportunity to sneak in and deadhead some of their favorite blooms, like Salvia ‘Blue By You’ in our raised bed pollinator garden.

This beautiful perennial is thriving in full sun and has reached its mature size of nearly 2 feet by 2 feet. Even better, it’s a repeat bloomer that keeps putting on a show through spring and summer with regular deadheading. 🌿💜

Now enjoying its second spring in the garden, Salvia ‘Blue By You’ continues to be a favorite for both pollinators and visitors alike!

Just when I think I couldn’t love our library and its amazing staff any more, they go and create a seed library! Our little corner of the world is something special 💚

We want to invite you to stop by and check out our Seed Library! We have some seeds with info sheets available and some donated seeds in original packaging and not in original packaging.

We ask that you limit to 5 envelopes per day per person.

Please bring donated seeds to staff so that we can count how many envelopes we put out. (We need to submit how many envelopes are taken at the end of every month.)

If you've stopped by recently to chat about plants, there’s a pretty good chance Alisha has dragged you over to admire her beloved Lemon Dalea. 💛

And that's because there are not very many ground covers that can survive the full sun of a Ridgecrest summer. And while we absolutely love trailing lantana (you really can’t beat that long bloom season 🌼), it’s nice to have choices.

So last summer we planted a 1 gallon Lemon Dalea (Dalea capitata) at the garden center and honestly… we held our breath wondering if it would survive our extreme seasons — winter freezes and murderously hot summer sun.

And WOW. It has absolutely thrived. Just look at it!

Almost a year later, it has spread to about 3.5 ft! Its mature size is around 1 ft tall by 3–4 ft wide, making it an amazing low-growing ground cover option for desert landscapes.

It’s soft, green, drought tolerant, pollinator friendly, and one of the few full sun ground cover options that truly performs in the Mojave Desert.

Do you have a spot in your yard where you’d love to add some softness, color, and something that makes the bees and butterflies happy too? 🐝🦋
