Today we have a beautiful Lyon & Healy violin from 1927. In the early 20th century, Lyon & Healy (a still-existing musical instrument maker in Chicago) imported violins from Europe. Due to market forces at the time, the got their instruments extremely inexpensively, put their own name (and sometimes their own finish) on the instruments, and sold them as “student” models.
This stunning example sounds as good as it looks.

This marvelous instrument has seen it all, and has the look of a wonderfully used, but well-preserved antique instrument.
It’s great for fiddling. With a 12 7/8” scale, it’s perfect for smaller hands or those used to shorter necks of older violins.
