This one was worth saving.

This Gibson came into the shop after being in a flood—and it was in bad shape. The owner had taken it to other luthiers and was told it was beyond repair. The electronics were supposedly destroyed from the water damage, the guitar itself was considered unfixable, and one person even offered to buy it for parts.

I saw something different.

After months of work, we rebuilt it one piece at a time: re-gluing every brace, repairing multiple cracks in the top, repairing the cracked bridge, performing a neck reset, bringing the electronics back to life, and using a few other tricks learned over the years.

Today, it went back into the hands of its owner—playing again.

There is a difference between repair and restoration.

Repair fixes what is broken.

Restoration removes what is preventing something from becoming what it was always meant to be.

That is why we decided not to refinish this guitar. Its checking, discoloration, marks, and scars belong to it. They tell the story of what it survived.

We didn’t erase them.

We left them as a badge of honor.

Some instruments don’t need to look new again. They simply need someone willing to see what is still there beneath the damage.

This one was nearly written off as parts.

Today, it makes music again. Thank uoh Dan J. Morris for allowing me to work on this gem.

I am honored and humbled. Thank you Dan!

A HUGE thank you to Charity Moreland for this AMAZING addition to the guitar repair shop!
🤘🎸

Stevie Ray Vaughan has been one of my favorite guitar players for as long as I can remember and was one of the reasons I ever picked up a guitar.

To now have a piece signed by Stevie himself hanging in my shop is incredibly special.

What if the greatest lessons about being human have been quietly waiting for us in the ordinary things we’ve overlooked?

For the past several months, I’ve been pouring my heart into a book unlike anything I’ve written before.

It’s not a memoir.

It’s not a self-help book.

It’s a journey through restoration, music, inner peace, and the quiet truths hidden in everyday life.

Today, I’m sharing the first complete chapter, The Workshop.

It begins with guitars…

But it isn’t really about guitars.

It’s about learning to listen.

About discovering that the symptom is rarely the problem.

About finding harmony—not only in the things we repair, but within ourselves.

If these words resonate with you, I’d be honored if you read the full chapter on my blog.

This is why I love being a Martin Guitar Service Center. I have access to the best team in the world. They helped me acquire a genuine peg head veneer plate and decal logo. Together we saved the life of this awesome acoustic bass guitar.

Hanging with Richard Rathbun when he picked up his guitar. We hand made a compensated saddle, gave it a killer setup with a level crown and polish….man can this guy play a guitar! I could sit here and listen to him for hours. Thanks again my friend.

In this craft, we never stop learning, never stop growing, and continuously refine our skills in pursuit of perfection. In the art of Luthiery, precise intonation is essential to an instrument’s success, and having the right tools is equally critical in achieving it.

Today, we upgraded from our Peterson StroboPlus HD to the desktop AutoStrobe 590. Here in our shop, our commitment to the highest standards and uncompromising workmanship never wavers.

Thank you, Peterson Tuners for helping us elevate our craft and continue our commitment of excellence to our clients.

Well, I have to say this is one of the coolest guitars I have ever had the pleasure of working on. An original 1930 Dobro. It came to me in pieces and was in really rough shape. We had to chase our tail fixing mistakes from a previous luthier, so it was no easy feat. It took a long time to get back to playing order but we did it…with a lot patience and love. I’m happy we saved this from ending up in the trash or burn pile. Hopefully it will last another 100 years.
