This guitar was built to find tones closer to what is heard on the Strats that Jimi Hendrix and Dick Dale played. The excellent Planet Tone, 63-65 Classic pickups were used as a starting point and have a custom stagger on the pole pieces. This produced a very clear tone with slightly brighter lower and warmer higher strings. The clean tones are delightful, but doesn't mind getting dirty, either.

A Mojotone treble bleed circuit is included. Because some distortion/fuzz effects don't play nice with a treble bleed, the circuit is on/off switchable via a push/pull volume pot.

The neck plays very nicely and has a TUSQ Nut.

While very lightly used for setup purposed and testing, there is a light blemish on the body (pictured).

Does not include case, strap or stand.

My Planet Tone Custom Pups arrived today. Ahead of shedule!

They are PT's "63-65 Classic" pickups, custom made with a reverse/left-hand/Hendrix stagger. I ordered the cream covers which will look really good on this project.

They arrived in good shape, but sadly, there's still some days of work left on before it's playable.

The new pickgaurd for came today. The shielding is done and it's ready for the the pickups and controls.

Hell, I'll do a fret job on anything!
Just for the practice, I did a fret replacement job on this junk strat neck yesterday.

Sanding the fretboard prior to installing new frets. This also sets up a consistent radius (12").

I really enjoy this part of the process. I like sanding, especially aromatic woods like the Rosewood here.

You have to be carefull, though. Rosewoods can cause alergic reactions like contact dermatitis, and anaphalaxis.

This neck will look and work great when it's done.

Had an older Samick Strat-style guitar come in for some fret work. Going over the neck, found a lot of dings on the neck and even one on the fretboard. A couple were bretty bad, but none were beyond help. Decided to fix the dings first.

The ding on fretboard was fixed with some rosewood sanding dust and CA glue.

The neck was a bit more involved. Sanded the lacquer finish off the back of the neck and headstock and used an old cabinetmaker's trick - using a wet towel and a clothes iron - to raise the dings. That done, the neck was treated with a nitrocelulose sanding seaer, sanded smooth to P400 grit, then several coats of satin polyurethane.

That's where we are, here, waiting on the poly to gas out before final wet sanding to P600 grit.
