What are baroque pearls? These are natural or cultured pearls that have an irregular, i.e. non-spherical shape. They say that the name of these beautiful minerals comes from the French word "baroque", which means bizarre, extraordinary, artsy.
Sea pearls are collected from oysters, but freshwater pearls are collected from beautiful mussels. When cultured pearls are harvested, the mollusk remains alive, and small balls or grains of sand are re-implanted into it, which then turn into pearls again.
Each pearl is unique in shape and properties and has its own particular flaws. You will never find two identical pearls, just as you cannot meet two identical people.
In 1991, the Big Pink Pearl was valued at the jewelry market for $4.7 million. Wesley Rankin found it in 1990 when he decided to do some diving in Salt Point National Park, California, USA. The pearl weighs 469.13 carats (94 grams) and measures 7 x 5 x 2.8 cm.
