Designs — and I got a little more personal than usual!
We talked about how Townie ToileTM started with one hand-painted watercolor of Falmouth, Massachusetts and how it grew into patterns for over 50 New England towns — and I'm currently working on 18 more! I also shared my process —painting, scanning, digital editing, and digging into local history for every town — plus the pandemic detour that brought me back to art after my textile design degree had been sitting on a shelf for years.

I also opened up about something I don't talk about as often here: being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 18, and how that experience shaped the path that led me here. If you've ever wondered how a life-changing diagnosis can still leave room for a creative business to bloom, this one's for you.

Labor Day weekend at the lake house, the beach house, or the porch you've got.

This is the weekend everybody notices their house one last time before fall. Pillows, mugs, a length of fabric over a chair - small things, big difference.

The unglamorous step between painting and product.

Every motif gets scanned at high resolution, then cleaned edge by edge so the paper texture stays and the shadow of the scanner doesn't. It is slow, it is fiddly, and it's the difference between a pattern that looks hand-painted and one that looks digitally printed.

The last week of hydrangea blue.

Every year I try to get this exact color down before it turns. Faded blue, silver-green leaf, a little rust starting at the edges. New England in late August is already thinking about fall and pretending it isn't.
