Saturday night is underway with a full table over in Hall C. I'm sitting seaside watching the action as Captain Ed and Captain Redbeard get these captains ready for action! ... Tonight's scenario involves two naval squadrons sailing into an area full of reportedly retired and board pirates with merchant ships due that are missing. The pirates all have fairly small ships and the warships are very large but the two naval squadrons are from Nations that are at war with each other so they might fight each other or they might fight pirates- time will tell.

Hi all it's Seadog Brian Brian Carnes from Sea Dog Game Studios ... Posting live from the game floor Friday night here at Origins 2026. For those who don't know, Origins is my home show and I passionately want to see this show to succeed as a place where gamers of all genres and game types can enjoy what they love.

As I casually browse the interwebs at the show I see a lot of talking from folks that are not at the show saying how there is no miniatures and no wargames and no miniature vendors. I can certainly appreciate that the miniatures and wargaming scene at the show took a pretty big hit it in years past especially after the pandemic.

However a number of us within the industry and within Gama itself and within the game club community have worked hard on bringing back a healthy presence for these game types at the show.

Our company and my games have been represented here for the last few decades but the efforts and games of others are not unnoticeable as you walk around.

I'm posting these pictures to give you a sense if you haven't made it down to the show this year of some of the people things and vendors that are here for you to enjoy.

You'll see pictures of my game and my booth you'll see pictures of Jason Matthews running Twilight Struggle you'll see pictures of HMGS Great lakes under Jenny Torbett putting on some great games some of which have really impressive table spreads and even a awesome tank game which is happening on the floor. You'll see Jon Russell Tim Peaslee and Willus Maximus with a awesome Warlord booth with Bolt Action and the hot alt history Konflict 47 here. While I didn't get over there today with my booth being busy over in pod c Monster fight club is running some awesome setups with their big ship and some helicopter racing games. And of course they have all the awesome Cyberpunk stuff that they do.

Army Painter is here with a full booth of hobby supplies which is located as part of a miniature plaza set up in the hall where there are a number of miniatures vendors arrayed around Neil's awesome paint and take.

You can find folks painting in other places like my friend Jp Gotrokkits ... Who also is a online stream painter.

There are lots of tables set up for games that were either going to be running or just ran that I probably missed So needless to say they were plenty of events I'm not capturing here.

If I get a chance I'll try to post more pictures tomorrow. Live from Origins 2026 Sea dog Brian out!

Origins: The (hopefully fixed and good to go) Schedule:

Some gremlins got into the great Schedulanator 9000 (tm) and there
was a time nexus event where the and volunteer crew somehow got scheduled to be running 3 games at once which while .gotrokkits and are very capable pirates this was not going to work.

Fortunately the Cyber ninjas at event HQ were able to slice in and correct the timeline !

If the corrected times wont work for anyone we do apologize but the corrected schedule is as follows:

12pm-2pm Sailpower Learn to Play
2pm-4pm TechCommander
630pm-1030pm Sailpower Big Game

Origins - Trying to rebuild a wargaming and miniatures legacy:

Origins as a show is a year older then I (Brian Carnes) am. Over the years many of the great stories in both wargaming, and miniatures started or had highlight moments at the show.

At a personal level, I started doing this show as an attendee, (originally playing Starfleet Battles, Babylon5 wars, Various historical wargames, and Warhammer (3rd edition?) later working as a volunteer and tournament game master for Wizkids back when they ran nationals and worlds level events at the show. My wife Elizabeth Carnes served as a volunteer in registration for a few years, before we both got busy with running Seadog Studios.

My GM crew David Oberting Edward Wedig and Jp Gotrokkits have been helping for years to make Origins a show we'd pull out all the stops for - whether it be running a giant with 31 players on a massive H shaped 16X16 game area or Jp Gotrokkits building a dropship out of a recycled apartment light globe for .

Then slowly it changed ... Miniatures and Wargames at Origins were replaced with mostly board games. When i noticed this I reached out to GAMA and Origins staff and began a conversation to try to fix some of the blockers that were leading to miniatures and wargaming not thriving at the show as it had in the past.

It's a challenge... GAMA staff changes and life changes for our volunteers and rising expenses have made it harder to thrive at Origins, but we still have a heart for the legacy and players of this show.

So as we approach the show again David Oberting posted some pictures on our discord of new ships for the games at Origins, and a new frigate he painted for me to serve as the booth display model of the new for 2026 Privateer frigate model. As i make this studio post i found some Origins pics from past years to share.

Edward Wedig is busy working on some last minute fixes to the games schedule - Sailpower and TechCommander are running in the SGG games area (look for the big red wood boxes they bring)

Anyway... if you are going to be at the show come visit us at the booth 1017 near the paint-and-take or come play games with us! The Origins schedule for Thurs-Sat (same each day)
12pm-2pm Sailpower Learn to Play
2pm-4pm TechCommander

Finally got a chance to shoot a bit of a video essay I've wanted to make for a long time which is: how big are these little doors on the forts of the Spanish colonial empire?
