I was really hoping that I could hop on here and triumphantly announce that Lilith's prognosis is good or at least fair (I would have even taken guarded). Unfortunately, that is not the case. She has a number of congenital abnormalities in her heart. I could get into all of the medical jargon, but suffice to say that her heart is a complete mess and could give out at any time. Life expectancy for someone in her position is 1 - 7 more years, 1 - 3 being the most likely. It is very rare to have patients with these conditions live a normal lifespan. There are no curative treatment options, and management options are extremely limited. In short, it's not a matter of if her heart will give out; it's a matter of when, and it could happen without warning. Sudden death is a high risk with this, especially with stress. To say that I am heartbroken would be both ironic and a woefully inept. She's only 2 years old and deserves so much better than this.

I am shattered and reeling, but I still want to make it abundantly clear just how deeply I appreciate the overwhelming support that I have gotten with this. Every kind word and gesture has made a huge impact on me. Honestly, I wouldn't have been able to get her in so quickly without the financial support. Now we can at least start her on a medication to hopefully reduce her risk of sudden death and improve her quality of life. If she had to wait another month before being seen, who knows what could have happened. In times as dark and uncertain as these, it's healing to know you have people who care. Thank you so much for being here for us. 🖤

I am going to do whatever I can to give her the best chance at a comfortable life for whatever time she has left. Who knows: She could shock us all and live longer than expected. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

To say that I am nervous is a MASSIVE understatement, but I am so unbelievably grateful that we were able to get pulled off of the wait-list so early! I never would have been able to do this so quickly without all of the support that I have received from this community. Genuinely, without the donations, I would have had to turn this opportunity down, and my call for help wouldn't have gotten out so quickly without every one who helped boost the first post. Being able to get this initial appointment and first round of tests done is a huge step forward. It will let us know where we stand and hopefully get us closer to knowing how best to fight this thing.

UPDATE: I have so much to say; I don't even know where to begin. Let's start here: THANK YOU! 🖤🧡 So far, about $700 has been raised in addition to an extremely generous agate donation to help me raise funds this weekend. To say that I am incredibly grateful would be an understatement. I'm 2/3 of the way to covering the initial appointment and round of tests. I found myself in tears a lot yesterday, but the sad and stressed tears were replaced by happy and thankful one. Every donation, message, like, share, repost, and story mention that I have received has made a profound difference. I absolutely adore this community. 😭🙌🏼✨

The fight's not over yet. I still have a ways to go to make sure that I can cover the additional testing (and hopefully treatments) that they will likely recommend.

This is a post I wish I didn't have to make for so many reasons. Unfortunately, I just got a grim update in Lilith's heart murmur journey. Her proBNP test came back off the charts, which means that her heart is in really big trouble. In addition to that, her kidney and liver values are also slightly elevated. Long story short, my girl is very sick and needs urgent specialty evaluation. She's only 2 years old, and I was told after the first echo that her heart looked good despite the murmur and to not worry about it outside of monitoring it, so you can imagine how this shocked and horrified me. I went to get a second opinion after her chest x-rays raised concerns about the size of her heart (really glad that I did). Unfortunately, the soonest the cardiologist could schedule her is November 10th. This will be an expensive visit, and everything I have done so far has already put a huge strain on my finances. And this is on top of both of my cats getting sick and needing to be seen in the same week. I need to be ready by the time that appointment happens, and I need to work fast in case she gets lucky and gets in early off the wait-list. Historically, I haven't been good at asking for help, but I am going out on a limb because I love and trust this community.

On today's episode of Side Quests: A good friend of mine asked for help with a car issue, so I got to work on something other than rocks and do a minor auto repair instead. 🔩 Finding the replacement part locally was admittedly a nightmare, but thanks to persistence and stubbornness, I eventually found it, installed it, and now it's working great! ✅ There's something distinctly satisfying about fixing a car issue and helping out a friend, ya know? 😎🛠️🚗

Lilith Update: Unfortunately, it's been a rollercoaster. She had her echocardiogram on Thursday, and the specialist confidently said that it looks like a common/non-worrying murmur that doesn't need treatment and that her hearts looks strong despite the defect. We just need to monitor it yearly to make sure nothing is changing. That was a big relief to hear. Then, the doctor looked at her chest x-rays and had them sent in for a radiology consultation. I just got this results a little bit ago. Lilith's heart is slightly enlarged (I suspected this would probably be the case) and she has signs of bronchitis. The bronchitis is likely due to the wild allergies that she developed over the last month (especially since the cough has improved quite a bit since starting medication). The doctor wants me to get her set up with a cardiology specialist to make sure her enlarged heart isn't a concern. This is frustrating for three reasons:

1.) I'm a worrier, and this has started that anxiety again when I thought I could be free of at least some of it.

2.) It will take a while to get in with a cardiologist.

3.) I will likely need to start over in terms of tests/diagnostics, and that is the opposite of affordable, especially after everything I have already done.

Soooo, yeah, not the happy-go-lucky update I was hoping to give. That being said, I do take heart in the fact that the first specialist was very confident in saying that this isn't worrisome. At least I know it's not as urgent/emergent as I thought it was a few days ago. And hey, if you ask her, she's fine. Her allergies have improved quite a bit, and she eating, drinking, and raising hell as usual. 🧡 Now all I need to do is work harder to continue to afford this busted little demon's high-maintence care. 😅🫠🙃

✍🏼 Personal Post ✍🏼

Part II: It's still National Dog Day. 🧡🧡 My last post was pretty heavy, so Vesemir is here to help lighten the mood. ✨ Those who know him know just how ridiculous this boy is. He's 70 lbs of pure, chaotic energy. He has been since birth, and I would know; I have been caring for him since he was 3 days old. 🐣 He has started to slow down a bit now that he's 4.5 years old, but I suspect he will stay chaotic for life. And that's okay. 🖤 I didn't always feel okay with this, of course. He was incredibly difficult as a pup and adolescent, and he had me in tears a number of times. He is certainly no exception to the high maintenance rescues that I have cared for over the years. That being said, this boy loves everyone and everything (to a fault). He's affectionate, eager, smart, stubborn, driven, and (I can't stress this enough) chaotic. We have worked hard to get to where we are now, and I am proud of how far we've come. Thank you for being my little goblin, Ves. 🧡🖤
