A hometown legend, a lasting tribute, and a proud Sallisaw story.
Sallisaw Main Street invites the community to join us on Saturday, October 10, at 12:00 noon in the Pocket Park in downtown Sallisaw for the unveiling of a new public-art tribute honoring Steve Davis.
Growing up right here in our community as a Sallisaw Black Diamond, Davis went on to become one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Oklahoma Sooners history, leading OU to back-to-back national championships and finishing his career as a starter with an incredible 32–1–1 record.
But this tribute is about more than football.
Commissioned by Sallisaw Main Street and created by local award-winning artist Donnie Poindexter, the artwork honors Steve’s athletic accomplishments while also celebrating his faith, leadership, character, and lifelong connection to Sallisaw.
The unveiling will take place during the Sallisaw Main Street Fall Festival, giving friends, families, former classmates, Black Diamond fans, and Sooner fans an opportunity to come together for a special moment of hometown pride.
And with the ceremony taking place on Red River Rivalry Saturday, it’s an especially fitting day to honor a Sooner great who went undefeated against Texas.
Wear your Black Diamond gear or your favorite OU crimson and cream, and join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of one of Sallisaw’s own.
