This handcrafted mala is made from 108 light brown Sandalwood beads. In ancient Buddhist tradition, the warm, calming aroma of Sandalwood was believed to stimulate self awareness and invoke states of deep relaxation when used during meditation. Sandalwood stimulates the Root Chakra, and by extension connects us to the earth – body and soul. The mala also features a bold black tassel. Black is the color of darkness and mystery, and it is thought to ward off evil spirits. In rural Tibetan Buddhist communities, the people wear black clothing and robes and paint the frames of windows black to bring good luck. A memorable first day of our Journey to the Heart of Nepal Retreat. It began with a beautiful yoga practice with Kanchan, then we toured with our guide, Dipendra, through the temples and palaces of Paton, we were each blessed by the Living Goddess Kumari Devi (that’s a very sacred event) and ended our day in meditation at the Mahabuddha temple. 🙏🏻

The enlightened emporium was born after taking a spiritual retreat to Kathmandu. As an experienced yoga instructor, I came to Nepal seeking meditation and mindfulness to deepen my practice. I discovered a sense of connection to something bigger than myself. I am now sharing this experience with others through our retreats. Nepal is such a magical place. I visited the little shops along sacred paths. I fell in love with the people, many of whom are refugees from Tibet. To help support them, I began buying their handmade goods. I’ve built relationships with local artists. I feel honored that I can share some of their art with you and build an online community that supports Himalayan artisans. I have personally selected beautiful handmade malas (meditation necklaces) and bracelets, along with prayer flags and the incredibly fragrant incense used in their temples. My hope is that you will find something that brings you joy and peace.
