Due to the limits of my video and photo skills the Monk guitar pick appears to be at least a foot thick in some of my pics and videos. Rest Assured. Our pick is only 2mm thick with an extreme bevel to get you off the string when hitting that lick. It is a patent pending design because of it's freakish look that provides you total control and comfort. It is made from industrial strength nylon used for products that need to withstand impact.

Therefore, you will wear out before our picks will. Here are some of the benefits of playing with a Monk nylon pick:

1. Flexibility: Nylon picks are known for their flexibility, making them ideal for strumming and fast picking. They are less likely to break compared to other materials, offering a good balance of durability and pliability.

2. Texture: Many nylon picks have a textured grip, which helps prevent slipping during play. This is especially useful during long playing sessions or in humid conditions where grip can be a challenge.

3. Tone: Nylon picks produce a warm, rounded tone. They are often preferred by players who want a softer, less aggressive sound. This tonal quality makes them a favorite among acoustic guitarists and those playing genres like folk, jazz, and classical music.

4. Variety of Thicknesses: Nylon picks come in a wide range of thicknesses, from very thin (around 0.38mm) to quite thick (1mm or more). This allows guitarists to choose the exact pick thickness that suits their playing style and desired tone. Thinner picks are generally more flexible and produce a brighter sound, while thicker picks offer more control and a fuller tone.

We are working on the variety. Believe me!!

5. Durability: While not as durable as some other materials like Delrin or Ultem, nylon picks still offer good longevity. They tend to wear down gradually rather than chipping or cracking, which can be advantageous for consistent playability.

In summary, nylon guitar picks are a versatile and reliable choice for many guitarists. Their flexibility, grip, warm tone, and variety of thicknesses make them suitable for a wide range of playing styles and preferences.

When it comes to gripping a pick, we all look for a feature that we feel will improve our playing. The following are some of the attributes and considerations for making a good pick selection. Monk Guitar Picks are a solid choice but one design does not fit all preferences.

When it comes to gripping a guitar pick, comfort and control are key. Here are some tips:

1. Hold it lightly: Avoid gripping the pick too tightly. A firm, but relaxed grip allows for better control and flexibility.

2. Thumb placement: Place the pick between your thumb and index finger. Your thumb should be on top of the pick, while the side of your index finger provides support.

3. Angle of attack: Experiment with the angle at which you hold the pick. Some guitarists prefer a straight-on approach, while others angle the pick slightly for different tones and playing styles.

4. Experiment with pick thickness: Picks come in various thicknesses, from thin to thick. Try different thicknesses to find what feels most comfortable and produces the sound you prefer.

5. Practice: Like anything in music, gripping the pick effectively takes practice. Spend time playing scales, chords, and songs to get comfortable with your grip and develop muscle memory.

6. Relax: Tension in your hand and arm can affect your playing. Stay relaxed while gripping the pick, and take breaks if you start to feel fatigued.

7. Adapt to your playing style: Depending on whether you're strumming chords, picking individual notes, or playing lead guitar, you might adjust your grip slightly to accommodate different techniques.

Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to gripping a guitar pick. Experimentation and practice will help you find what works best for you.

Ah, guitar picks! They're such a simple yet essential tool for guitarists. They come in various shapes, sizes, thicknesses, and materials, each affecting the sound and feel of playing the guitar.

Here's a breakdown of why guitar picks matter:

Material: Picks can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, nylon, metal, wood, and even stone. Each material produces a different tone and feel when strumming or picking the strings.

Thickness: Picks come in different thicknesses, typically measured in millimeters. Thinner picks tend to be more flexible and are well-suited for strumming and rhythm playing, while thicker picks offer more control and precision for lead playing.

Shape: Picks come in various shapes, such as standard teardrop, jazz, or triangle shapes. The shape can affect how the pick glides across the strings and the angle at which it strikes them, influencing both tone and playability.

Texture: Some picks have a textured surface or grip to prevent slipping during intense playing sessions. This can be particularly useful for guitarists who have sweaty hands or play under hot stage lights.

Personal Preference: Ultimately, the best pick for you depends on your playing style, the genre of music you play, and your personal preference. Some guitarists swear by a particular type of pick, while others experiment with different picks to achieve their desired tone and feel.

Whether you prefer a classic plastic pick, an exotic material like buffalo horn, or something in between, finding the right pick can greatly enhance your playing experience and help you achieve the tone you're after.

Many guitar players strive for picking speed. It takes more than a pick to achieve it. The Monk guitar pick can help this effort that allows the player to decrease the amount of pick surface on the string. This is done by our design of the bevel and the round stabilizer that allows you more finger and hand surface on the pick itself.

Increasing your guitar picking speed takes practice, patience, and a structured approach. Here are some tips to help you improve:

Start Slowly: Begin at a comfortable speed where you can play accurately without making mistakes. Focus on clean and precise movements.

Use a Metronome: A metronome helps you stay in rhythm and gradually increase your speed. Start at a slow tempo and gradually increase it as you become more comfortable.

Practice Regularly: Consistent practice is key to improving any skill. Dedicate a specific amount of time each day to practicing your picking technique.

Focus on Technique: Pay attention to your picking hand technique. Make sure you're using efficient movements and not wasting energy on unnecessary motions. Keep your picking hand relaxed and use minimal effort.

Isolate Problem Areas: Identify specific passages or techniques that are challenging for you and focus on practicing them separately. Break down complex patterns into smaller segments and gradually increase the speed as you improve.

Use Alternate Picking: Alternate picking involves alternating between downward and upward picking strokes. This technique allows for greater speed and efficiency. Practice scales, arpeggios, and other exercises using alternate picking.

Practice Different Patterns: Practice a variety of picking patterns, such as scales, sequences, and arpeggios, to develop versatility in your picking technique.

Visualize: Visualize yourself playing the passage or technique flawlessly at high speed. Mental practice can be just as effective as physical practice in improving performance.

Relaxation and Tension Release: Pay attention to any tension in your body while playing. Tension can inhibit speed and accuracy. Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and stretching to release tension in your muscles.

Listen to Feedback: Record yourself playing and listen for any areas where your technique can be improved. You can also seek feedback from teachers or experienced musicians.

Remember, progress may take time, so be patient and stay focused on your goals. Celebrate small improvements along the way, and don't get discouraged by setbacks. With dedication and persistence, you can increase your guitar picking speed over time.

Choosing a guitar pick the style, shape and thickness is very personal. You cannot make a pick that meets the long list of what players are looking for. Our pick addresses the disconnect between the current pick styles and the hands. The Monk pick addresses the inability to get more hand on the pick without using a huge one. The round section is the stabilizer and it will find a place to rest in let you lock it in and forget about it. It is a fun pick and delivers excellent tone quality

Manny Skretas of Skretas Family Cymbals Company and I share a love for playing jazz. Manny is an excellent cymbal smith and has coached me on making beautiful and durable products. But our picks would make horrible cymbals, but the functionality and aesthetics in our design delivers quality sonic tonics like a Skretas Cymbal.
