A fabulous order of ten for the gal who waited the longest!!
What an adventure it was to fill. One girlfriend tells me I should be blogging about all this and the other tells me “You don’t have freaking time”! They’re both right. And that’s a blessing!
I’m so grateful to be busy during this time and not bored...or straight up loosing my mind. Instead I’m learning how to run a small business! I’m learning to finesse my sewing machine when he’s grouchy, as well. He’s an old boy, oh Brother, but he hanging in there!
When I ran out, I went on a hunt for black thread to find empty isles were thread used to be. Then it was sold out black fabric everywhere. So I learn to dye white muslin black but that only worked so-so (likely because I need to repeat the process). My beloved homie springs into action and saves the day by ordering me black thread and a black sheet to harvest fabric from, without which these masks displayed her would not exist.
The sheet textile is cotton and delightfully soft but Brother keeps jamming up and skipping stitches. I eventually figure out (after breaking several) that by using a smaller needle, things go a bit smoother.
So I seam-rip out the crooked seams and go back over the spaces. We can’t have these babies looking jacked up or falling apart in the wash!
Valuable hours of experience are being gained here as I hone in on my craft. Perhaps the most priceless tidbit for me has been learning how important it is to myself that I give people what they’ve asked for: That I put out quality products in a timely, pandemic fashion whilst maintaining a positive report with my customers.
I am basking in the feeling a creating what’s not only needed but also admired! And yes, highly covidid.
The License Plates material was the first textile to sell out Monday and this was the last bit; about a square inch smaller of a cut than I would have typically used but I made it work by widening the boarders. I’m gratified. Thank you , our C.E.O. and founder, for all you do and all the love. Thank you to my fashionistas and istos sending masked selfies, and to the lovely people placing orders w/all your patients as I get them filled 🙏🏼✨
