THE QUIET TRUTH GRANDPARENTS CARRY
There is a quiet truth
many grandparents carry in their hearts.

Not one they speak about often.
Not one they bring up at the dinner table.

It simply sits there
gently resting beneath the joy.

Because grandparents know something
children are too young to understand.

Time is moving.

They watch their grandchildren
run across the yard in the springtime.

Little shoes kicking through the grass.
Tiny hands reaching for dandelions.
Laughter floating through the air
like it might stay forever.

And for a moment
it feels like it will.

But grandparents have lived long enough
to know how quickly the years turn.

They know the small child
holding their hand today
will one day grow tall.

They will have their own dreams.
Their own homes.
Their own little ones to rock to sleep.

And a grandparent quietly wonders
how many of those chapters
they will get to see.

But the quiet truth
is not only about time.

It is about something deeper.

Because grandparents also know
the love they pour out now
does not disappear.

The prayers whispered over little heads.
The hugs given in the doorway.
The stories told in rocking chairs.

Those things travel forward.

Long after the years pass
and seasons change
and life keeps unfolding.

So grandparents hold them close
a little longer.

They watch them
a little more carefully.

They thank Jesus
for every ordinary afternoon.

Because the quiet truth
grandparents carry is this:

We may not see
every page of their story.

But God allowed us
to help write
the beginning.
