Built for LOVE. Cracked. No loving halfway inside. Turn it inside out. Love is sandpaper, waiting to be smooth. It screams. Whole. Grind out the edges. It is etched into my skin, cloaked in soft satin. Carried everywhere I go. Pull, push. Feel. Absorb. Porous. It is there for you to see. Unfiltered, ripped open, depth. Dark, constant craving to be beckoned to light. A soul. Naked for you to see.

The Friends of the Point Loma/Hervey Library present an Author Talk with Ann Bancroft featuring "Almost Family" on Monday, August 11th, 2025 at 6:30pm in the Marla Haas Community Room.

Three middle aged, metastatic cancer patients become unlikely friends in a comically awful support group. They ditch the group, forming their own, aiming to enjoy life on their own terms. Their bond leads them to help one another resolve, family issues and find peace and acceptance at the end of their lives.

Ann Bancroft began writing fiction after a career in journalism and communications. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she’s been a newspaper and wire service reporter, editorial writer, speechwriter, and journalism teacher. "Almost Family," winner of the Sarton Women’s Book Award for fiction is her first novel.

I am co-leading a author talks series here in San Diego at one of our local libraries in 2025 and we need more speakers who would be willing to participate. Perhaps Thanksgiving isn't for everyone . But let's honor those Indigenous people that suffered and understand them, with LOVE.

Let's form a circle of unity at our Thanksgiving table today and be thankful.

For it is not about the centerpiece, or who has the most delicious , mouth watering bird, but being surrounded by those we love and remembering our humanity and all the blessings through even tumultuous beginnings.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for receiving the gift of writing, and for all of my readers!
