Whitney started this endeavor of making granola 30 plus years ago when she first came to America and found the store-bought cereals full of sugar and additives that weren’t either necessary or healthy. All these years later that is largely still the case even in the health food aisles. No kidding, go look – sugar, wheat, salt, preservatives, high-fructose corn syrup…
All of our kids have grown up
on this original granola and it went away to school with them and fed their friends and roommates and dates and friend’s dates… at some point during their college careers, our children became ‘less generous’ with their granolas, so their starving friends pestered us to make and sell it to them. Good idea, we thought and started experimenting with versions of a good thing and entered them in the amateur side of the Sonoma County Harvest Fair to see if anyone else liked it – turns out we won the top four prizes! There was one unholy amount of celebration and then we got started in earnest. Two weeks later we were established in a commercial kitchen, with all our tools of the trade, and a chance of a lifetime to sell at the Sebastopol Farmers Market. A year and six different Farmer’s Markets later, we entered the Harvest Fair again as professionals, and won a double gold and four silver medals with our five entries. We have to thank all of the lovely people who come by our booth week after week to comment, give us advice, inspired harassment and encouragement, and buy our granola to boot. Working directly with all of you has been and is more fun than should be legally allowed. All year long you have been asking us “Where can I buy this outside the Farmer’s Market?” and the answer is we are in the throes of going retail right now.
