Wondering what’s different about the new SCRAP? 👀 Bead-lieve it or not, we have MORE beads than ever before. Our greatly expanded bead section is thanks to a very special donation from legendary San Francisco bead store General Bead

Glass and wood beads. Seed beads. Letter beads. Findings. Vintage components. Rhinestones. And plenty we’re still discovering.

When the Sunshine family reached out and asked if we could give a new home to a portion of their incredible inventory, the answer was a very enthusiastic YES YES YES! Over two months and multiple trips, we brought what we currently estimate to be 20,000+ pounds of beads and findings to our new Depot.

We’ll be sharing more of the story throughout September- from getting all those beads here and sorting through them to, of course, what you can make with them.

“What’s the weirdest thing people donate to SCRAP ?”
“Well, we’ve seen a little bit of everything over the years and I’ve collected my fair share of it in the process.
Whether it’s old crime scene photographs, dubious-prosthetics, or mummified-pets; it eventually finds its way to us.
I started to notice the occasional instance of families donating adult and baby-teeth. If I had a dime for every time it happened I could afford a cup of coffee😜.
It got to the point that I asked the customers and friends:
What should I make with all of these teeth that hasn’t really been done before?
And one of the bears in my life suggested a studded-jacket.
Well, I fell in love with the idea!
Here we have the gross-result of sifting teeth from thousands of pounds of materials and 2-years of SCRAP donations.”

OPENING WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS! 🎉The new SCRAP Depot opened this past weekend, to a heartwarming and encouraging show of community support.

900+ people came through on Opening Day, the parking lot got its first workout, and we broke out our new totes, fabric wall + a massive selection of BEADS donated by General Bead

There was Mister Softee Nor Cal 🍦, ATLAS COFFEE BAR ☕, a tree planting with California Climate Action Now! a ribbon cutting with the SCRAPpiest scissors made by Aiko Cuneo ✂️ — and a whole lot of community love.

SCRAP’s new home, and our swift relocation and reopening wouldn’t have happened without the community that’s shown up for us since we launched SCRAP to the Future, our Capital Campaign, last fall.

And we’re not finished yet! We’ve raised $3.3M — almost halfway to our $7.5M goal. Help us keep building SCRAP’s future. Donate via the link in bio!

So many have been curious about what it takes to move SCRAP… so here’s a little peek behind the scenes! 👀📦

The truth? This video barely scratches the surface. For every clip we captured, there were weeks of packing, organizing, hauling, and good old-fashioned scrappy resourcefulness by staff and volunteers that never made it to camera.

We’re busy getting the new SCRAP ready for our Grand Opening on Sat, Aug 15! 🎉
