After I graduated high school I went to college for Civil Engineering at UTSA. Since I had been on the engineering pathway since middle school it made sense and I THOUGHT that it would be a creative enough field for me to enjoy. Let me tell you… I was very VERY wrong. By the time I was on academic probation and having a full blown identity crisis, the only class I was passing was Art 1. Not just passing but that professor had me teaching some of the lessons. After dropping out I created my first series of drawings and had prints made to sell at my very first art market. 8 years later and I still struggle with voices of doubt about choosing to pursue art in any capacity. But I pulled out every drawing, every unsold gallery painting and even every finished sketchbook I had. Put it all together to tell a story. A story of bravery. A story of learning. A story of love and color like no other. The story of My and how she became the “Childhood Joy” artist. Thank you all from the most colorful parts of my soul.
