There is a certain kind of prestige I was taught to chase, but when the burnout became unbearable, I was forced to step off the hamster wheel and stop optimizing for what I was told to want. Instead, I started to build a life around work that actually filled me up.

When you step away from the typical success script, you stating seeing tiinnny signs of prroof that it’s doable, not just a fantasy... and then, somehow, 10 yrs later... 🥲 🥲 🥲

Let me guess: Your job has never demanded more of you, and you’ve never been more unhappy in it.

5 years ago that was me: optimizing my whole week around a job that would replace me in a quarter if it needed to. Today, my mid-mornings have yoga, my Thursday has a long coffee date with an out-of-town friend, and my weekend has kids in it, not errands.

When people ask how I got here... I just spent more time on my own creative hobby: my tiny Etsy shop. I didn’t try to make as much money as fast as possible; I just refused to let my corporate job take the absolute best of my creativity while my actual life got the exhausted leftovers.

This isn’t a “quit your job” post ; it’s a “check what you’re actually trading your time for” post.

We traded shoulder-to-shoulder photo ops for open lawns, neighborhood playgrounds, and actual space for the kids to run around under the trees in Tokyo. The view was just as good, and nobody had a meltdown!!
