To my mind: “I’m not going to negotiate with you today.”
My mind: “But what if you’re tired and need a break?”
Me: “It’s not happening. We’ll rest later.”
Our mind is always looking for the easy way out. That’s not weakness, that’s just how it’s programmed — for survival.
Success takes having a plan and making your choices non-negotiable, even with your own mind.
If it’s up to your mind you’ll skip the workout, grab the drive-thru instead of cooking, lay on the couch instead of going for that walk.
Part of doing hard things is learning you can override that voice telling you to take the easy path.
Today I’m going to push myself to hit a PR. Knees are feeling good, body’s rested and ready, I’ve been training hard.
If you see me slowing down out there today, tell me to push through and pick it up. My body is capable and my mind doesn’t get to decide today.
I’m not negotiating.
What’s the one thing your mind keeps trying to talk you out of?
