One of my favorite recent SILK Paintings began with a wedding photograph and a wonderful idea from Jeffrey, who wanted something truly special for his wife for their 12th anniversary — the SILK anniversary.
Using their original wedding photo as the foundation, I created an entirely new setting and then hand-painted the finished artwork on silk. Jeffrey told me his wife was “speechless.” ❤️
I’ve just created a new Etsy listing featuring this piece and my Original SILK Painting process. Each one begins with your own photograph and is individually created and hand-painted on 100% silk Habotai.
Wedding photos, anniversaries, engagements, memorials — or simply a photograph of people you love.

A treasured home can hold so many memories. ❤️
Daniel asked me to transform this photograph of a beautiful historic Pennsylvania home into an original hand-painted SILK Painting.
His photograph became the foundation image for the artwork. From there, I transformed it into an original painting, hand-painting with opaque watercolor directly onto 8.5” × 11” SILK Habotai — bringing out the warmth of the home, the gardens, the sky and all those wonderful architectural details.
And after he received it, Daniel wrote:
★★★★★
“Great service and great product. My wife loves it… I thought the pic you sent looked great and it’s even better in person. 100% happy.”
That last part made me especially happy. There is something about seeing a painting on silk in person that simply doesn’t come through completely in a photograph.
Whether it’s a longtime family home, a first home, a childhood home, or a house you’re saying goodbye to, I love creating something that preserves the memories attached to it.
Your photograph becomes the foundation for an original, hand-painted SILK Painting.

Hello everyone, ,

After the response to my Cypress tree piece (which truly meant a lot to me), I’ve been continuing my coastal series—this time experimenting with painting directly on silk, instead of my usual photo-based process.

These are the next pair in that series, inspired by West Cliff Drive.

What surprised me is how the silk holds the watercolor—the color sets immediately, so instead of blending like paper, it builds in layers. It created this soft, misty coastal feeling that really reminds me of being there.

I’d love your thoughts—especially which one you’re drawn to, and how they feel to you.

These are original silk watercolors, and I’ll also be offering prints.

So here are two of my latest Silk Painting Prints. They started out as my own photos: the Anna's hummer was taken up at the UCSC Arboretum, and the Audubon warbler or yellow rump warbler photo was taken from my rooftop window in my eucalyptus tree. Then I have a process that I created several years ago, where I create a watercolor from the photo and in this case mostly of the backgrounds. I then photograph the watercolor, put it back into my computer with the original photos and do what I call a photo/watercolor/merge and print on silk. The results in my opinion have been really fabulous. And I do them of other people's photos as well as as part of my favorite listing in my Etsy shop, Ladywholovesbirds. But I thought I'd share these as I am doing more and more of my own photos. I am at Open Studios artist and plan to include these this year.

✨ Turn your favorite photo into a one-of-a-kind silk artwork ✨

This Cypress tree piece is just an example of what I can create from your own photo 🌿

I use a blend of photography, Photoshop, and my own hand-painted watercolor techniques to transform meaningful images into something more expressive and lasting. The subject stays true—but the background becomes painterly, luminous, and unique.

Each finished piece is printed on silk (8.5” x 11” Habotai), creating a beautiful, heirloom-quality keepsake.

Think:
💛 a wedding photo
💛 a favorite place
💛 a home filled with memories
💛 a moment you never want to forget

These make deeply personal gifts—for a partner, parent, child, or dear friend.

If you’ve ever wondered what your photo could become, I’d love to show you.

Major BEE swarm, as they are forming a hive inside the wall of my barn. I have someone from the Santa Cruz Beekeeper's Guild coming today to evaluate removal of the hive which they will rehome. These are western honeybees, which I have never had in my yard before, and I've lived in my home for 45 years!
