Join the Hermitage at Bookstore1Sarasota in downtown Sarasota on Thursday, December 18 @ 6pm for “The Fantasy of Reality,” featuring celebrated author, poet, and Hermitage Fellow JOSEPH EARL THOMAS. Thomas is a writer who straddles form with a distinctive style that often pushes expectations and plays with boundaries between fantasy and reality. Through this continuing literary collaboration with Bookstore1, Thomas will discuss and share excerpts from his original works.

WE NEED YOUR VOICE TODAY! Florida lawmakers are fast-tracking HB 1539 - a sweeping censorship bill that threatens to strip even more books from school shelves. The House Education & Employment Committee will take it up TOMORROW MORNING, THURSDAY, APRIL 17, 2025.

This legislation would give the state broad new power to ban books, lumping works by Toni Morrison, Shakespeare, St. Augustine, Eric Carle, and even the dictionary and the Bible, in with obscene materials. It’s a direct attack on free expression and violates the rights of students, educators, families, authors, and booksellers across Florida.
