Obvs Handmade

Obvs Handmade 2026 for me is "outside" — Outside more - enjoying nature & walking my dog. Go outside of my comfort zone...hence why I started Obvs Handmade.

Thinking more outside the box - to be more creative & use the tools I have & gain more knowledge.

Current WIP:
My very first Tshirt quilt. This will definitely be a learning process for me but I’m excited. Back Shed Brewing is something very close to my heart (& my husband’s as he was the brewer). I was a beer tender the very first day it opened to the very last day it closed. I miss this place tremendously and I hope I can find comfort with this quilt.
***Still looking for Tshirts if you have any on hand you are willing to part with.

Now that the quilt has been gifted, I feel I can share.
This was a quilt I did after my daughter asked me if I could make a quilt for her friend that was leaving to be a foreign exchange student in Brazil for a year. We brainstormed but my daughter was pretty much the designer, I was just the one that drove the sewing machine. There were a few seam rips involved, but the final outcome turned out better than I expected. We cut out 5" squares of various pink fabrics. We also had 5" square white fabrics and had close family and friends write a message on their very own square.
Patchy Cat Quilting did such an amazing job with the long arm work. My daughter's friend is part of the bible study group and Patch Cat Quilting had the perfect design! I can not thank PCQ enough for the beautiful work and the flexibility in order to have it done before the friend hopped on her plane.
*I made a personal choice to cover the faces of the young ladies being that I did not ask for their permission to use this photo.

Next project: mat board travel tote bag!

Last weekend I had to kill a good 5+ hours in between my son’s baseball games in Anoka, MN. When you need to kill time, what better way than to shop at a quilt shop? Google brought me to Tiny Apple Fabric & Crafts in downtown Anoka. What an adorable shop with gorgeous fabrics, tools, accessories, kits…pretty much anything to add to your craft room.

Bonus that day, it just so happened to be Riverfest and Craft Fair day. So I spent some time walking up and down the streets to scope out the craft tents…and had an ice cream cone.🍦

God Bless America Flag Quilt

Size - 49" x 75"

***This quilt was sewn without any pattern. I basically used squares consisting of 13 different red, white, and blue fabrics. There is just something about the American flag and for what it stands for that makes me proud. This one took me awhile to complete. From start to finish (with stashing it away at times, obvs) took about two years.

Posts coming soon! Three of them in fact. This is a little teaser as to what will be featured.
In the beginning of the year I said I was going to be more outside - outside of my comfort zone. It's mid-July!!! I have some quilts that I am selling. Now for those who are not quilters...quilting is expensive. By the time you add the costs of fabric, batting, time, long-arm services...it adds up quickly.
However, the ones I'm listing are basically at cost of fabric, batting, and long arm services. If you, or anyone you may know that may be interested in any of the three quilts being posted this evening, let me know. I can ship for an additional $10 to the price of the quilt.

Another project from Obvs Handmade. I call this one a Mess Tray. The tray is a thick plastic measuring 18.5”x13.5” with a 1” lip.
What would you use a Mess Tray for you ask?? Plenty!
•Watercolor or Tempera Painting
•Slime
•Play-dough
•Kinetic Sand or Moon Sand
•Shaving Cream
•Pudding
•Really any sort of sensory play!
Sensory play helps kids develop skills in a fun, messy way all the while keeping the mess in a (sort of 😉) contained area. These trays can easily be rinsed off, wiped down/dried, and ready for the next adventure.

Not quite sure how I managed to pull this off. I thought for sure I’d be heading to the store tomorrow for more brown thread. Phew!

Hi! It’s been awhile since I’ve made a post so I thought I’d let you all see what I’m currently working on.
I’m notorious for buying fat quarters…I may not have a plan as to what I’m going to make with them but…I’ll use them someday. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I found the perfect book where I can build different blocks (either 12” or 6”) with the numerous fat quarters. I think this will be a very long process, which is just fine. Sometimes I find myself working on a particular project and get tired of it. This here will be my “let’s take a break and work on the farm quilt.”
