Some of you asked about glyphosate and venison. Wayne Sitton has some data, so here is what he says.
“We received a question about glyphosate in venison recently. We will start by saying glyphosate is found in almost everything in today’s world unfortunately. A couple years ago we pulled samples from animals we personally harvested. The samples were sent to a lab that specializes in glyphosate residues in the food supply. What we found were our free range animals did indeed contain traces of glyphosate! They ranged from .62 to 2.87 PPB. Our assumption is location and age could have impacted the levels but again just an assumption. Keep in mind the numbers above are in Parts Per BILLION. Most food items that contain cereal grains test much higher. Granola bars for instance depending on brand contain 500 Parts Per MILLION, not BIlLION. The government sets acceptable levels of glyphosate and established at different levels based on the product. Water for instance is supposedly safe at 500 PPB so 100s of times higher than what we found in venison. Orange , Apple and cherry juice also is very high depending on brand and location. Studies of breast milk from lactating mothers in the farm belt states also indicate levels of glyphosate residues. glyphosate is found in rain water, wells rivers and streams. Some ice creams approach the regulation limits. It’s our opinion that it would be difficult to find a protein source that is any safer than venison to feed your family. It’s unfortunate but if we all limit our use perhaps it will have some impact. The over use of glyphosate and more seriously pesticides concern us as it has had a huge impact on pollinators and some of the wetland habitats and ecosystems. Hope this answers the questions and yes we have concerns about long term impacts of over use.”
