He may be a little undersized for the assignment, but Finn’s doing his best to model this gorgeous vintage embroidered horse blanket from Bukhara, Uzbekistan. 🐎

Measuring 47” x 56”, this textile features a rich green ground covered in colorful floral and paisley embroidery with beautiful fringe along the edges. Originally made as an ornamental horse covering, today it makes an incredible wall hanging or statement textile.

Finn not included. 😉

Available now at JG Antiquary Co.

I normally say no to accepting more fine China because I feel like they don’t sell very quickly, but this was a stunning set with an interesting little twist on one of the plates, as well as a lot of family provenance accompanying the set.

This is a 100 year old (ca 1921) 68-piece vintage Noritake “Pheasant” dinner service, decorated with florals, gilding, and its distinctive pheasant motif. Altogether, the individual replacement retail value comes to approximately $1,540.

Included with the set is a collection of family provenance, literature, and correspondence, including letters documenting the family writing back and forth with Noritake about this very pattern.

And then there’s my favorite oddity: one dinner plate was decorated with the entire pattern… except the pheasant. Somehow, it appears to have made it through production without its bird ever being painted. A bit of a rare occurrence!

68 pieces total:

* 3 teacups with matching saucers
* 8 additional saucers – 5.5”
* 1 creamer – 5”W × 3”H
* 9 shallow bowls – 7.5” (a few have some fading to the decoration)
* 12 small bowls
* 12 luncheon plates – 8.5”
* 1 covered sugar bowl – 7” handle to handle
* 12 dinner plates – 10”
* 1 attached gravy boat and underplate – 9”
* 1 small oval serving bowl – 8.5”
* 1 medium oval serving bowl with gilded handles – 9.5”
* 1 large oval serving bowl with gilded handles – 10.5”
* 1 round serving platter – 12.25”
* 1 large oval serving platter – 14”
* 1 extra-large oval serving platter – 16”

Available through JG Antiquary Co. for $700

I learned a lot assembling and researching this survivor from the era of large-format studio photography.

This is a Century No. 9A studio camera dating to about 1907–1928, based on its Kodak and Folmer-Schwing identification. Century Camera Company began manufacturing studio cameras around 1902 and was acquired by Eastman Kodak in 1907. Probably most remarkable is the lens: an early J.H. Dallmeyer 3A, with a serial number dating it to the late 19th century. Dallmeyer was among Britain’s important early manufacturers of photographic optics.

The camera retains its studio stand and sliding carriage: an increasingly difficult-to-find complete configuration. The carriage allowed the photographer to frame and focus on the viewing glass before making the exposure and could accommodate multiple plate formats.

This beauty was Most recently used in an old-timey portrait studio, the camera was represented as operational, although its functionality has not been independently verified. Due to how well these were made, I feel pretty confident that it can be brought back into working order with a professional who really knows how to work these.

Please note that this is extremely heavy. As you can see through the assembly process, it does come apart in separate pieces, but it is still quite the behemoth. Best of purchased locally, but available for a higher shipping price online via Chairish. Just look up JG Antiquary Co on Chairish.

Another antique scale has made its way into the shop ⚖️

This one is a 1920s Torsion Balance Co. precision scale, made in New York and originally used for incredibly precise measurements in pharmacies and laboratories. And yes, it still works

One of my favorite details is the 1975 State of California inspection seal still attached to the glass, showing that this scale remained in regulated use decades after it was made.

A beautiful little piece of scientific history, now available at J.G. Antiquary Co. for $550

A day in the life of an antique shop owner part 4?. Today was jam packed so this is just when I had the capacity to film! I love this little life 🥹🐕

A beautiful early 1900s apothecary balance scale by Scientific Materials Co. of Pittsburgh, PA housed in its original wood and glass cabinet.

Once used in pharmacies and laboratories for precise measurements, this two-pan brass balance was designed to deliver accuracy while protected from air movement inside its enclosed case. The sliding glass front and lower storage drawer add both function and charm, while the original maker’s plaque still proudly remains.

A striking piece of scientific history with warm wood tones, aged brass, and visible mechanical detail, perfect for collectors, vintage interiors, or anyone who appreciates early laboratory craftsmanship.

Appears to be in working order. No weights included.
